anyone experienced this as of yet?

playing the demo mission where you have to blow up the docks n stuff. i had 5 mamoth tanks ( i actually had to build about 20 coz i kept getting them blown up----yes i suck at RTS) and i called in some Air drop troops next to them

those dudes dropped in and then the mamoth tanks basically wipped them out in a fit of friendly fire. WTF is up with that?

LOL; I have no idea! That's pretty funny, but very weird... Probably just a demo kink.

I'm struggling to see the point of infantry or most of the vehicles below a Mammoth tank. Do they have a specific weakness which infantry or the other vehicles can deal with? Alternatively, will the retail version limit the units that can be built initially or make it more difficult to acquire money? 😕

Edit: this is the first time I've played C&C

mammoths take a little while to get.. you're gonna need something to hold off enemy armor and take down garrisoned buildings as GDI. the predator does a decent job

I wonder if they will tweak the AI in final release?

Even on easy, the enemy is insane. i don't know how it builds so many units! in past C&C games, easy meant the ai only sent a few units at a time and the intervals was pretty big. this ai sends them continuously.

i did ok playing as GDI but playing as NOD I got my ass kicked.

I've only been playing on medium so I guess I've had enough time to build at least one Mammoth. After that, it doesn't matter what they send. They also take care of the buildings 🙂

I've also had that happen to me. I also lose control of the unit in quesetion. I'm not sure if its a glitch or because there is a nod unit or structure that "turns" the unit. I've only seen it happen with infantry units. When I use an orca to drop the sensor probes they will sometimes pick up cloaked units which might be the cause of the units turning. When I kill those cloaked units I don't have that problem with infantry turning.

Meh... if you can click faster and know the shortcut keys you will win... almost no strategy...

*Waiting for KaRRiLLioN of Armed Assault to make his FPS RTS 4*

In Red Alert 2, the American GIs (which were very plentiful from airdrops) could dig in and wipe out most tanks. And as soon as they got a armor kill, they would rank up quickly and have insane range and damage.

So maybe between garrisoning rifleman and missile dudes, as well as putting them in the little foxhole things the rifleman can build, you probably have a cheap but decent defense against mammoth tanks. I'm not sure how good the mammoth are at infantry in this one, but in previous games, all those big tanks sucked (except for the mammoth missiles, or run them over with force-move) again dug in infantry. They got tore the hell up. So if you don't have any tough vehicles to counter them, I'd try a combo of well-placed infantry types.

edit: I played the two campaign missions on medium. They put up a quite good fight but I had no problem taking them out after I got built up with a lot of units. I've played C&C 1 since 1996 (had the demo earlier but my computer ran it at like 2 fps), plenty of RA, then Tib Sun, then lots of RA2 (got in the top 75 on WW Online in 2001-2002), so I have a ton of C&C experience in single and multi.

Yet skirmish on normal for the first time and I got wrecked. I wasn't out yet, but from the stats when I quit, they were so far ahead, and I had lost my tib refinery twice, had to sell my tech center, lost my war factory once, etc. Fvcking superweapons!!

Those suicide guys Nod sends suck too.

I think with a couple more times I could take them out on normal, but even as a C&C veteran (played them on and off for 10 years), I don't think I could do hard and certainly not brutal.

Also, the pressing 'n' or 'g' on my or the computer's side didn't change them.

I want to play NoD just to MURDER those mammoth tanks. I like to play the david role you know? 🙂

Once you've used the NOD equivalent to a Mammoth tank upgraded with a second laser or a flamethrower you'll soon feel like Goliath again 😉.

Someone please tell me the range on the weapons has been increased this time.

The thing that annoys me about these games is you have tanks (or bows and arrows, whatever) firing only like 5 or 10 times their own length... so dumb...

All I can say is that I was smiling the whole time I played, and when I finished the demo mission by utilizing the Ion Cannon, I started clapping. I think I'll be picking this one up for some nostalgic C&C goodness.

Uh... should they shoot halfway across the map? The reason for the range is balance. It's always been like that and works perfect.

It should do, I thought it wasn't working for me either but I was clicking on either my drop-down list or the computer's and hitting N, then it changed me to NOD.

Some videos showcasing the NOD Avatar Warmech (among other things).

Looks amazing. If the video is any indication, I'm buying this motha! lol.
Hearing Kane again seriously gives me goosebumps.

well im not entirely sure how it happened.

i had my mammoths on that attack stance so they actively go out and shoot stuff and retaliate.

i dropped the troops in, amidst a fight and either the GI's were shooting the mamoths and the mammoths pwn'd back, or vice versa or they just decied to knock seven bells out of each other for no reason. this was during a fire fight with the NOD the mammoths and GIs continued to fight, the GI's obviously succumbing to numerous rail gun shots, while the NOD just shot at my stuff. when the GIs died, quickly, the mammoths resumed kicking NOD ass.

No they should shoot twice as far, and artillery units 3 times as far, and the maps should be a bit bigger and have more features.

Don't get me wrong, I will play this game... but I'm still hoping for the perfect rts one day.

You could manage hard. I beat it first time i tried, i played a medium AI and won then tried against a hard AI and won, it put up more of a fight though. I think it mightve been tougher on a bigger map, as the AI's expansion had a lot of important main base structures in it, and every time i destroy the expansion the AI is pretty much beaten from that point on.

Ive deemed the brutal (and money cheating) AI impossible, if anyones beaten it on brutal do tell! I just didnt have enough resources to hold them off, even if i was to expand early like against the hard AI it would steamroll my expansion before i could get an effective defence up, scorpions arent all that good but when the AI sends hordes at you they do a lot better.
