In the average beer carbohydrates account for less than 1/3rd of the total calories. In the average light beer the percentage of carbohydrates is even less. In a drink with 146 calories (non light) in 12 ounces, two beers are equal to one slice of sandwich bread. Unless you are drinking an 18 pack every night beer is not a significantly overwhelming source of carbohydrates. Beer bellies are more caused by consuming regular food and junk food along with beer.

146 calories is like a soda...i agree that beer doesn't contribute to weight gain more than anything else, but it's just as bad as sodas and fruit juices - empty calories

Srsly,
a) How can you let yourself get that fat?
b) If you do in all defiance of common sense, why don't you work to loose it?
I'm not talking a little paunch here, i'm talking those blimp-like people you seem to see more & more these days...usually shoving fast food down their throats at a terrifying speed.
Don't give me any of that 'genetic predisposition to getting fat crap either and making it IMPOSSIBLE to loose weight, it's essentially BS & nothing a good diet/excercise won't solve).

Fatties
That was a picture of me at a buffet here in town. An all you can eat buffet. I didn't see the mammoths in the back until I actually looked at the pictures later.

It is more comfortable and requires less energy to sit on the couch than to run. Unhealthy foods taste better than healthy foods. It is the realisation that to become a better person, you are going to have to damage some of the only enjoyments in your life that creates a barrier keeping fat people fat.
Personally, my shallow priorities and fear of being unhealthy keep me motivated.
I was amazed! it was like a bag of holding from a D&D game.
