I saw it at the theater and I loved it. Cruise was really cold hearted in this flick. Not a guy I would want to run across...

saw it in the theatres, have the dvd. i like the movie, and i think its one of the better flicks out this year. btw, mann's shots of l.a. (overhead and street shots) were imo beautifully done, and brought a different visual aspect to l.a. that doesnt portray the city as dumpy. now, i cant wait for the heat s.e. coming out early-mid next year!

I saw The Insider yesterday.... wow, what a great movie. The back of the DVD at blockbuster makes it sound so boring but once you get into it it's just so good. Did this film win any awards?

As a Michael Mann fan, I liked it a lot. However, one thing that struck me as odd was that when Det. Fanning mentioned a similar past case where a "cabbie killed 3 people and killed himself", I think it's odd that there wasn't any connection made between the 3. It probably wasn't a killing of 3 random people, but 3 members of some organization or witnesses. In this movie, 5 would've been killed, and it would've been easy to make the connection between them all. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie.

I really enjoyed it.
It didn't seem as predictable as many other films out there. ;)

I thought it was an alright movie. It was shot well and a lot of the fight/shoot-out scenes were very well done. But in the end, the movie was predictable, kind of silly (let's go see your mom in the hospital! and after Vincent shoots a bunch of cops, fbi, and the witness, somehow no one is looking for the taxi anymore), and it just doesn't seem very plausable.

edit: oh and in LA, where doesn't a cell phone work?

Did you miss the detectives talking about the previous case where the cab driver in S.F. had gone on a rampage and killed a bunch of people? The hitman's plan was to take the cab, then kill the driver at the end of the night and frame him for the murders. That way, when he's done, the case is closed and nobody is looking for him.

I thought the battery was supposed to be dying.

the only obvious "bug" in the movie for me is when the taxi driver rode the elevator up to save the girl....

um....didn't the hitman cut the power just 5 minutes before that? ;)

that's the only obvious flaw for me...otherwise, I thought it was excellent :)
Maybe the elevators have a backup power source for safety reasons.

At first, when he first gets the phone, it has no signal. That is why he goes to the top of the parking garage. Then, when he is on the phone the battery dies.

I have it sitting at home. Haven't watched it yet. Guess I'll have to do that while I'm on vacation next week.

I didn't like the ending. Very much like the ending of Heat. Let me explain.

Cruise's character is supposed to be a top notch professional hitman. How can a stupid cabbie kill him so easily? Just like in Heat.
DeNiro's character is supposed to be a top notch professional thief. How can a 'cop' kill him so easily?

you'd be suprised what a human can do when their life is in danger...

Vincent was probably too cocky about his abilities..allowing max's pumped up self to kill him...:)

Plenty of places. For like 2 years my cell phone wouldn't work in my apartment. There are also several dead spots around town.

well in heat deniros abilities don't really change, he maybe a thief, but he's going against a professsional cop. not a cabbie. and his shootout was long and drawn out, relatively realistic. coulda gone either way. heat stayed with the relative realism throughout. collateral just tossed realism out the door after the cabbie goes rambo and then the characters all become inconsistent with their previous abilities.

Its funny you said that it didnt sound interesting from the cover. Thats exactly how i felt. we put off watching it for months until we were totally taken aback when we did watch it.

Actually that wasn't a obvious flaw, he cut the power, but that doesn't mean for the whole building. Infact from what I could tell it was just that floor, which wouldn't prevent the elevator from working. The lobby having power helped confirm this,

I definitely enjoyed it. Nice to see Tom Cruise play a bad guy (which he pulled off very well).
