Clinical Depression

Has anyone here been treated for depression? Do you have some good links regarding symptoms and treatments, or any advice? If so PM me, as I don't want a ballooning thread.

Yes, and I'd say go to the doctor. The medicine really does work, but it does have some strange side effects that might make it not really worth it to you.

Yeah, just go to the doctor and tell him whats up and he'll prescribe something for you. Mine told me they like to test out different drugs on you until they find what works.

get out and about exercise that sort of thing. i should probably take my own advice. lol. A simple natural method though is an herb called "st johns wort". it's supposedly nearly as effective as ssris.

try to get better without the pills...

Suggestions for how? Have you done it?

I'd estimate I've been down for about 5 years.

Alot of times it is not something you can just get over. Go see a doc, don't rely on the pills for the rest of your life of course but sometimes they are needed to kinda get you over that initial hump.

In some cases for some types of depression (as in, not a lot for bipolar people). On top of which, it can negatively interact with other medications among other things. In all, you really should see a psychalist/psychologist for an actual diagnosis and talk with a phamasical before taking St. Johns Wort or other herbal cures.

I forgot about this thread until just now.

I have to take sleeping pills to go to sleep every night (I'll lie awake for hours.) And I hate to get up in the morning because I know it'll be the same thing over again. The dull pain in the back of my head that seems to flow forth cynicism and negativity into my life.

I sat and talked with a friend for hours tonight, about him getting played by his ex-boyfriend. He was crying and sad over it. And I was there for him. But I came home and I realized that seeing someone feel something, even pain, makes me wish I could feel anything. My feelings never get hurt. I feel so detatched from the world, so indifferent to everything.

I also realized that I can't really remember what if feels like to be happy. I mean, really happy, not a fleeting moment of enjoyment or laughter. It's been years since I've been happy.

And presently I'm at a loss for words.

Buy yourself a pretty little number.

Seriously, one day, just sit for a while in the rain. Stop & come back once the weather gets sunny again. I try this, & it lifts me up a little. I find myself thinking about every little thing whiel in the rain, while my mind just starts to float off in the sun.

I often stand in the rain. One of the few things that makes life seem real anymore is the slight blurring effect that occurs when drizzle or raindrops hit your eye. Like explosions of blurriness all over your field of vision, and the sharp coldness in your eye.

We were made for a purpose: To serve our Creator. If you don't have a right relationship with God, you're bound to have a void in your life.

Spirituality and Mental Health

Religious and spiritual beliefs are an important part of how many people deal with life's joys and hardships. Faith can provide people with a sense of purpose and guidelines for living. When families face tough situations, including health problems, their religious beliefs and practices can help them fight feelings of helplessness, restore meaning and order to life situations, and promote regaining a sense of control. For some families, spirituality can be a powerful and important source of strength.

Medical studies have confirmed that spirituality can have a profound effect on mental states. In a study of men who were hospitalized, nearly half rated religion as helpful in coping with their illness. A second study showed that the more religious patients were, the more quickly they recovered from some disorders. A third study revealed that high levels of hope and optimism, key factors in fighting depression, were found among those who strictly practiced their religion.

And so it begins....

Edit: Nebor, I don't really have much advice for you, other than to perhaps see a doctor, spend time with your friends and loved ones, etc. I know it's not very helpful, but I don't have much experience here.

I hope you feel better soon.

That's a drastic step. Most people just just medicate themselves to mask their emptiness.

Careful with the mental illness + religion, lots of serial killers are whacked out peeps with uberfundamental religious upbringings

Just believe in something. Believe in yourself. Know that even if you don't think you can be happy, you can definately affect someone elses life. That in itself is rewarding. I'm not into religion, but knowing that I can make someone smile gives me enough will to realize that life is worth living.

I was in depression for 2 years. I cured myself of it. Smoking pot made it go away. It actually worked.

My depression years is a long story though.

Marijuana is my suggestion. 🙂
