But now there's, forget the number, fifty names in the Mitchell report. That's a lot for anyone baseball fan to focus on any one player, if Clemens just lays low, "tells the truth" to congress, he may just get lost in the shuffle. That's more what I meant. Fans / media really aren't talking about Petitte like they are Clemens.

Instead, Clemens is setting up high-profile interviews, press conferences, lawsuit, the whole nine yards. What, he disclosed a recorded phone call conversation he had with the guy after the Mitchell report was released. He's bringing the negative attention on himself.

when the report came out, there was immediately one name that stuck out that everyone talked about, even before the report was released--and that was Roger Clemens. There had been brief speculation beforehand, but after he was named, it seemed to just confirm all the speculation.

I kind of agree to a point that a month or so after the report (how long has it been anyway), had Clemens not said anything we definitely wouldn't be talking about it now, but if the guy wants a shot at the hall of fame or to clear his name, he had to be proactive--that is if he really didn't do it, or more importantly thinks he can in fact be found innocent of these charges..

yeah, that phone conversation seemed pretty much worthless without clemens directly asking why MvNamee lied or something. i imagine his lawyers told him not to ask that, unless of course, well, it was no lie.

Invited to testify to Congress on 1/16!

I really wish our federal government would stop giving a fuck about the most worthless sport on the planet.

Well it is one of the three biggest professional sports in the country. I agree that Congress does have better things to be doing, but, then again, without their intervention there would be no effort to clean up ANY sport.

at what consequence. Who gives a shit. Its mindless entertainment. Just another distraciton from the real issues. smoke and fucking mirrors.

I agree with your sentiments. The problem with this country is so many people feel they have the right to tell other people what they can or cannot put in their bodies. It is mind-boggling

Apparently Pettite has implicated Clemens in a 2nd deposition that claims they both discussed hgh usage...

Congressional testimony begins at 10am eastern time today, a couple minutes away.

Yep before it was a he said he said. But with Pettite, Clemens is just as bad if not worse then Bonds now.

That and wehat did he have to gain. Now he could end up with jail time.

According to Waxman, the chairman, Pettite testified that Clemens told him he used HGH. :Q

Clemens is getting absolutely blasted, and this is only waxman's opening statement!

Yea I just read that he tried to take what he told back in 2005 by saying he must have heard him wrong, it was his wife that did the HGH.

Nice guy. Get caught and blame the wife.

Funny thing, which he was called out on during the hearing, Pettite asked clemens in 2005 how he was going to respond if he was fingerpointed using HGH (since clemens told pettite he was using it in 2000). Clemens then told pettite he must have been mistaken, that clemens was referring to his wife using hgh, not himself.

But that was impossible to have brought up his wife using hgh in a 2000 conversation because she didn't use it until 2003.

The Democrats are blasting Clemens, while the GOPs are trying to go after McNamee, with the all important issue of who was at Canseco's party

Clemens believes he is more important than Congress. Any dumbass can tell you when the Head of the Committee is making his final statement, you don't interrupt him.

It was interesting to see Congress decisively split along party lines on who they believe.

When the one Congressman was questioning McNamee:
Congressman: "You a drug dealer"
McNamee: "I am not a drug dealer"
Congressman: "Do you deal drugs?"
McNamee: "Yes"
Congressman: "Then you are a drug dealer"
McNamee: "No, that is only your opinion"

But Clemens sitting there giving his speech about his concern for educating the kids - (1) you stated earlier you have *zero* knowledge of performance enhancing drugs and their effects, how can you educate anyone? and (2) why did it take accusations of your own usage before you suddenly felt this concern to educate kids?

Andy Pettite = Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon

Here's a guy that did a bad thing, e.g. cheated in baseball, but is actually being treated as the protagonist, maybe even the hero by simply admitting what he did, but is now using his past misdeeds to help take down a big fish.

That's the drama queen version of it...otherwise someone could simply say he's telling the truth, which he's pretty much done since the beginning. Clemens could have been the hero by having an ounce of integrity and telling the truth from the beginning, instead of slandering people who are doing so.

Clemens is full of crap, and I suspect Pettite is too. All he's admitted to are two paltry aborted attempts to use HGH, and he's hiding behind the "healing injuries" defense at that, quickly realized it was a mistake, not right for me, blah blah blah. The same old story they all use when they decide to admit to something. Evidently everybody in baseball who ever used hormones stopped within a day or two and found religion and repented. Right...

Besides that, Pettite's story changed from when he made the statement in December to the February deposition. I think he deserved a chance to squirm in the hot seat today.

They all are full of crap with their code of silence. Not just the guilty. The only ones who have ever said anything are those facing federal agents with physical proof. Even the "innocent" are just as guilty of staying silent. And not just the players, MLB officials, MLBPA officials, owners, all full of crap.

What happened in the past happened, nothing can ever change it. But to see a complete lack of care about what happens going forward, the entire MLB personnel and MLBPA personnel needs to be replaced. That's just my humble opinion, never going to happen though.

I'll be dancing in the streets the day Bud Selig is fired. Selig was given the Mitchell report 3 days before it was released, quite possibly the most important document of his career, and he goes up to the microphone and states he hasn't had the time to read through the report.

The Chicago sports radio has really been making fun of Clemens today - it's not stupid making fun of him, it's picking apart all the problems in his story.

But start with the Congressmen. The Republican from Indiana, Dan Burton, who was tearing into McNamee about lying - the Congressman himself cheated on his wife and had a baby from the affair. And while his wife was dying of cancer in the hospital, the Congressman was cheating with one of the female doctors. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the Burton story. The Congressman is even more scum than either McNamee or Clemens.

Here's a comment from Roger's wife, Debbie Clemens:
http://www.debbieclemens.com/

I believe you have to challenge yourself by setting goals. I have always participated in the goals that my children and husband have for themselves. I always talk to my husband and children about their goals, listened and supported them in their dreams. What I did not realize was that my children were growing up fast and that I was not setting goals for myself. I thought about the seasons of my own life.

Roger came to me one day and told me that we had been asked to do a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated. I had major anxiety! I was a 39-year-old mother of 4! Once I realized that this WAS going to be a reality, I decided I had to give it everything I had. My mind was set. I am not a risk taker, but have since learned that with great risk, sometimes comes great reward. The responses from that experience have been wonderful and I feel it was a turning point in my life. It?s nice to have a goal for yourself and to see it through. The goal kept me motivated and focused. Using common sense and my ability to balance my life, I achieved that goal.

Does that sound like someone was so upset over the HGH fiasco in preparation for the photo shoot?

WTH was up with that one Congresswoman telling Clemens (and this is a direct quote) "Mr. Clemens, all I can say is I'm sure you're going to heaven." after she was done with her questions?
