7 girls = 14 girl legs
7 girls x 7 backpacks x 7 cats = 343 cats x 4 legs = 1,372 cat legs
343 cats x 7 kittens = 2,401 kittens x 4 legs = 9,604 kitten legs

14 + 1,372 + 9,604 = 10,990 legs

EDIT: Math fail until now. 10,990 is correct. I originally calculated it as 1 adult cat per backpack.

Havent you already figured the girls legs above the bolded? Why would you multiply them in again?

Since each girl has 7 backpacks, so there's 49 backpacks on the bus.

Doing it in excel, I got the right answer but doing it by hand I would probably make a mistake somewhere. Though back in school, doing it by hand wouldn't be so sonfusing. It's funny how you get used to your tools.

There are seven girls, and each girl has seven backpacks, and each backpack has seven cats.

In my original calculation I was way off because I was counting it as either 1 adult cat per backpack or one backpack per girl for some reason. But there are 7 girls, and each girl has 7 backpacks, so that's 49 backpacks, and each backpack has 7 cats in it, so that's 343 cats.

This isn't really difficult math, it's just a lot of stuff to keep track of and it's easy to make a small mistake.

Yep, 10990 was the first answer I came to also.

It's not hard, just have to keep track of what you're calculating. First calculate the # of baby kittens and multiply by 4. Then find regular cats and multiply by 4. Then add 14 for the 7 girls.

1. 7 girls x 7 bags = 49 bags
2. 49 bags x 7 big cats each = 343 big cats
3. 343 big cats x 4 legs each = 1372 big cat legs
4. 343 big cats x 7 kittens = 2401 kittens
5. 2401 kittens x 4 legs = 9604 kitten legs
6. 7 girls x 2 legs = 14 kids legs

1372 big cat legs + 9604 kitten legs + 14 kids legs = 10990 legs.

Ah crap i missed the each girl has 7 back pack parts. Read comprehension fail for me. Thought each one just has 1 backpack. Ok so 10990 is right then for my math now.

I can't fathom how so many people in this thread failed so hard at such a simple question.

ATOT is math fail. How could we have so many people not posting 10990?

My scratchpad:
7 girls = 7*2 legs = 14
7^2 backpacks
7^3 cats = 4*343 legs =1372
7^4 kittens = 4*2401 legs =9604

So easy, {[(4*8)*7]*7}+(7*2)=1582

I see someone else came up w/ this answer, how can it be wrong?
8*4=32legs per backpack
32*(7*7)=1568 legs inside backpacks (7girls, 7 backpacks each)
1568+14(legs on girls) = 1582, if that's wrong, then it's a literal question of "how many legs on the bus" which is 0, buses don't have legs in the biological sense.

Oh i misread, i read only 1 cat per backpack, not 7 cats, ok...
So that only changes it a bit (8*4)*7*7*7+14=10990

Human = 7g * 2 = 14 legs

Cats = 7g * 7b * (8c * 7) * 4 = 10,976

Total = 10990

Is it bad that my first instinct was to set up a matrix in Excel to solve this? Took about 1 minute. I'm sure that the answer has been posted by now, but it's 10,990 if we assume that the bus driver has stepped off for a moment to have a cigarette or something or 10,992 if the driver is on the bus still.

Lol, that is so easy:
7 human beans * 2 = 14 legs

49*7 = 343 cats * 4 = 1372 legs.
2041 kittens * 4 = 9604 legs.

10990 legs. bus driver. 10992.

As already said, there is no bus driver. He's probably stepped out to take a leak at a construction site porta-potty.

If his name is Jeff Lew, it would be Killer Bean.

Cats have paws not legs btw.

They have paws at the ends of their legs.

How many legs do the bus benches have?
