if there's no silly little tricks like including the bus driver or the kittens are not born yet then it's 7*2 + (7^3 + 7^4) * 4 = 10990

10990!

What were you guys doing who got all those other answers? Cats in your neck of the woods have an optional number of legs? o_O

I'm surprised it took so many replies. This is simple multiplication folks. Nothing fancy. This is what, like 3rd grade math?

We all forgot about the adult cats.

The email says it's a 5th grade math problem. Though I don't know in which country. When you unlock the spreadsheet you're supposed to add your name and location, then pass it on. The first four are all in New Jersey.

I remembered the adult cats, but like I said before, thought they all had 2 legs.

I get 10,990
There are 7 girls = 14 legs
There are 7 x backpacks = 0 legs added.
There are 7x7x7 cats at 4 legs each = 1,372 legs added
There are 7x7x7x7 kittens, 4 legs each = 9,604 legs
Total 10, 990, assuming the bus has no driver - the problem did not say he / she is on the bus at the time. Or, I suppose, one of the 7 girls could be the driver.

OK, so maybe the answer is 14 for the girls only. the problem does not specifically state that the girls have the backpacks and kittens with them on the bus.

10,990

7 girls = 14 girl legs
7 girls x 7 backpacks x 7 cats = 343 cats x 4 legs = 1,372 cat legs
343 cats x 7 kittens = 2,401 kittens x 4 legs = 9,604 kitten legs

14 + 1,372 + 9,604 = 10,990 legs

EDIT: Math fail until now. 10,990 is correct. I originally calculated it as 1 adult cat per backpack.

1582. That was easy. Next. :p

7 girls = 14 legs
7 backpacks x 7 cats each = 49 cats. 49x4(legs each)=196 legs
49 cats x 7 kittens each = 343. 343 kittens x 4 les each = 1372 legs

So..

14+196+1372=1582.

If you say im wrong you die :p

Havent you already figured the girls legs above the bolded? Why would you multiply them in again?
