Everything comes to and end. I loved it about 8 years ago, before streaming and you tube, when ppl would post here download links to full episodes.

Hammond and May have other jobs inside BBC, presenting a variety small shows and one-season series. They appear to get support for what they want to do. Perhaps they are tired of Top Gear, too. Also, there's a clear rank among the presenters, which pisses off 2 out of 3 presenters. I doubt they would leave. They could continue with 2 or get a younger, funnier bloke (like Russell Howard, who presents the Good News show). Clarkson leaving would give them a ton of material.

Perhaps only ITV can give them a big budget and start a family car show, but producing local crap and PBS-grade mini-series probably gives them a much better return. The inevitable comparisons during a first season could mean there would never be a second.

Fifth gear has IMO good, likable presenters, less crap, an equally attractive show (minus the big-bucks BBC production, of course) but not a fraction of Top Gear exposure and success. It's a more car-oriented show, though; testing ordinary cars, a couple of hot laps, and that's it. No fake, impossible races across Europe.

Fast-forwarding through the filler, there were tons of great moments, though. Probably one of the best entertainment shows ever. If it was on American TV, it would have more reruns than Seinfeld.

Drunk or not, if you punch out someone that works for you, you're gonna at least lose your job.

+1 completely agree above.

The thing is, he (Jeremy Clarkson), was on their third and final warning.

In the UK, we essentially have a "three strikes and you are out", system, when you are employed by a company.
EDIT: (Actually I think I mean a, 4 strikes and you are out, but I think you know what I meant).

I.e. If you do anything bad, after your third and final warning, you are sacked.

Punching someone in work time and/or at the work place (without phenomenal provocation, like the other fellow did **** with your wife), will normally mean, immediate sacking, in the UK.

meh. the show's popularity was inversely proportional to intelligence, relevance to motoring and reality in general. remember when they used to have weekly segments on used cars at good value? neither does anyone else. while catering to the lowest common denominator (how to succeed in business) they did have 1st class video production.

top gear was excellent at painting whatever picture they wanted to show. they were masters of false humility, presenting opinion as fact, rigging "tests" for sensational results, downplaying the armies of support on their implausible adventures, and somewhat maintaining plausible deniability. in short, they were very good liars.

H982FKL - the car's registration had been set ages ago, but only an imbecile thinks it was coincidence. there are no coincidences on a show as well-made as top gear. they specifically looked for registrations that would supply cheap laughs, especially when combined with the most offensive of the 3 hosts, and built the show around what they found. how many times have you seen "voice over, close up of the number plate, cut to clarkson smirking, resume voice over"? lots. and it's a wound they've salted several times - these pictures are from the "worst car in the history of the world" dvd:

i have no sympathy for the bbc, either. after less than 1 season they made the exact same decision concerning their other cash cow, doctor who - to hell with quality programming, spectacular diarrhea is where the money is.

i think the 3 hosts' other programs are usually very good and look forward to more of them. as for top gear, it's dead and should be swiftly buried. they cannot succeed in replacing clarkson. not only is he the main star, he rebuilt the entire show in his own image. kill it, move on, and watch top gear under a different name on a different channel.

^So the fvk what. Everyone knows they controlled every minute detail. Scripted it all, etc. Screwed TESLA over. About the only thing left to chance was the powerlap times. Unless you're talking rigged Ferraris. It was still the most entertaining show I can think of. With the highest production value of its kind.

Wait, you mean I can't trust everything I see on a TV show?! D:

Next thing you know they'll be scripting movies too...

Heh. You've never been on a trading floor.

We'll see if ITV actually has enough pull to get him over.

Not disagreeing, but I know I still will miss Clarkson from the show. I do think you can agree with the decision, but still be sad he is gone. He was fantastic on the show and will be impossible to fully replace.

Oh well, everything ends at some point. :(

Uh-oh. Now the Po Po are involved.

Here is North Yorkshire Police's statement in relation to an alleged incident in North Yorkshire involving Jeremy Clarkson

North Yorkshire Police Spokesperson said:
"North Yorkshire Police is liaising with the BBC regarding the alleged incident in North Yorkshire involving Jeremy Clarkson. We have asked the BBC for the report which details the findings of their internal investigation into the matter. The information will be assessed appropriately and action will be taken by North Yorkshire Police where necessary. It would not be appropriate for North Yorkshire Police to comment further at this time."

In the real world, yes. In the world of millionaire entertainers, almost never. You think Lebron James would get kicked off his team if he punched another player or team personnel? Of course not, it is not uncommon to read about fights breaking out behind the scenes in sports or movie/TV sets, and very rarely do hear of anyone losing their job over it.

Not in anyway condoning what Clarkson did, but he and his two costars will be the 3 people hurt the least by the end of the current Top Gear. They briefly interviewed James May, and he joked about creating an Ebay ad for his Ferrari. The people who really get hurt by this are the multitude of behind the scenes people who aren't getting paid millions. May also mentioned that the altercation wasn't a big deal that blew up into something that was instead of being handled internally and moving on.

Good, sounds like he outright assaulted a guy. Celebs shouldn't get any leeway

God the world got wussified. Not to long ago, men clocked each other if they deserved it, people were shown who's boss, there was some grunting and posturing involved, and then they went on with their lives. Now "men" with overly high voices get into slap flights, rush to the emergency room, then tell their mommies. John Wayne would be ashamed.

Its getting hard to find supporters for JC in Europe apparently. NetFlix, or heck Amazon should get into this.
