People still watch Top Gear? Really?

This is not a car enthusiast show, it's simply family entertainment......circled around cars.

And you pretty much explained why so many people still watch it. It's family entertainment... circled around cars. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's not just another sitcom or awkward reality show. It's just a fun show with the right people talking about cars you'll never get to drive yourself.

Nobody ever said it was a hard-core gearhead show, and thank god it's not.

How grumpy can one person possibly be?

Top Gear is probably the best 'car' show on the air right now.

I liked Adam Corrolas' "car show" back when it was running, I wish they would have gotten him to be a host on the American Top Gear. None of the hosts are likeable, compared the the UK version.

Top Gear can never work on American television. It's all advertising driven, so if you say something bad about a sponsor, your funding gets pulled. The best part of Top Gear is when they find bad things about an expensive car.

John Davis' voice and affect have never stopped driving me insane. I just can't stand that guy.

Oh God.

John Davis has the tone, cadence, and delivery of an infomercial narrator.

"But if you act NOW, and take advantage of this exclusive offer...!"

Completely agree. There's also something muted and odd about the sound mixing with American Top Gear or maybe I'm just too used to the echo-y garage environment UK Top Gear is recording in.

Regardless, they shouldn't even bother with localizing Top Gear in English speaking countries. Just broadcast the original UK version. When I 1st watched Top Gear nearly 8 years ago, it took me less than 5 episodes to get used to the slang. (bonnet, boot, MERC, etc.)

Clarkson tweeted earlier, "Many many thanks to all of the people who have called for my reinstatement. I'm very touched. We shall all learn next week what will happen."

So, it sounds like everything is still up in the air.

Probably the latest news (hopefully, everything will be OK next week, and he won't be sacked):

I VERY MUCH hope that the show goes on. Ideally remaining on the BBC. But it is worrying, if the star themselves (Jeremy Clarkson), is NOT too optimistic about what is going to happen.

My fingers are crossed, in the hope that the show goes on (WITH Jeremy).

I never knew the proper story about what happened. But a very long time ago, many of the old top gear presenters (and possibly other staff), suddenly left, and formed a new TV programme on a different channel.
Called "Fifth Gear", on (UK) Channel 5. If I remember, correctly.

Unfortunately, something similar could happen again. Depending on the possible sacking, obviously.

Jeremy Clarkson alludes to 'BBC sacking' at charity event

A video has emerged of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson saying he expects to be "sacked" by the BBC.

The host was speaking at a charity event in London, where he was auctioning what he described as his "last lap" on the Top Gear race track.

"I don't know when I did my last ever lap of the track, before the BBC sacks me," he said.

An investigation into Clarkson's current suspension following a "fracas" with a producer is still ongoing.

A report over the incident is due to be handed to director general Tony Hall next week, who will consider the evidence and "set out any further steps".

The Roundhouse Gala on Thursday saw Clarkson offer to drive someone round the Top Gear track as part of an experience offered during the auction.

"I didn't foresee my sacking, but I would like to do one last lap," he said.

"I'll go down to Surrey and I'll do one last lap of that track before the [BBC] sack me.

"And I'll drive somebody around in whatever I can get hold of when I'm sacked, so it's probably an Austin Maestro."

The presenter gave an expletive-filled description of BBC bosses, adding Top Gear had been "a great show" but it had been ruined by the corporation.
