Chris Christie to sign New Jersey ban on gay conversion therapy

So if it is a behvioral issue, what triggers the behavior?

The idea of conversion therapy is an old one that has increasingly drawn criticism for its methods. Last year, four gay men sued a Jersey City group for fraud, saying its program included making them strip naked and attack effigies of their mothers with baseball bats.

It always comes down to problems with the mother duh 😉

Probably a sub-conscious desire to have sex with their mother that keeps them from being attracted to other women forcing them to have sex with men 😛

Can you link me to some reputable sources that show that it is destructive to youths?

The movie Fight Club comes to mind. God I love that movie. It has so many great quotes, the cinematography and editing was spectacular, and I liked the soundtrack as well.

Fight Club said:
Tyler Durden: Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

That whole movie (and book) was about the struggle with male identity. Modern men and women are both significantly more depressed than they were in previous generations because neither group has any real sense of identity. Men and women have moved to a common middle ground where everyone is the same.

Desire, then, if not choice.

I'm not sure if it's natural or not. But the fact that some people suddenly decide what they are naturally attracted to indicates it is not necessarily inherent.

What the hell do you mean by "natural"? That makes not a lick of sense to me. If its human behaviour, it is natural BY DEFINITION!!!! Jesus do you think some alien or devil invades their brains or something?

How is it that gay people have turned straight? Or straight people turned gay?
Sexuality is a continuum. The bottom line is that people are attracted to whatever they like, for whatever reasons they like, and you should butt right the fuck out of it.

The issue at the bottom of this is the implicit assumption that if there's treatment for it, it indicates an abnormality; furthermore, that if we treat them the same, they are the same.
This is totally preposterous. You might as well allege that giving both men and women the right to vote and own property means that "they are the same."

To tell youngsters that there is no significant difference between attraction to the opposite sex and attraction to the same sex is a leap too far for me.
Then don't tell your kids that.

It implies there is no difference between the sexes.
Ridiculous. Nobody is telling kids that they should be equally attracted or aroused by both genders, but that its ok to be attracted to whatever gender that feels right to them.

Freedom, motherfucker, do you speak it?

If homosexuality isn't natural, then it must be supernatural -- which means, of course, that God has given the gays special powers like the power to decorate a room or dress sharply. Magical gay boogiemen hiding in conservative closets ready to jump out and arrange your flowers when you least expect it.... BOO!

It is a behavioral issue, and it is a choice people make.

Sounds to me that Christie caved to political correctness.

I would like to see some studies done on gay conversion. Lets see the evidence and go from there.

Lemme guess, you tried it out and it worked 100% for you?

RELAX!!!! I was only kidding!

I feel like we have had this conversation before. If that is your belief for why they are gay. Why not get them treatment for child abuse instead of gay conversion threapy? Seems like the issue would clear up on its own would it not? And I find it interesting given all the straight people who were sexually molested didnt turn out gay. Are they living a lie?

That's an excellent question.

You mean unless they want to become straight. In which case the state should butt right the fuck in.🙄

and you base this opinion on what exactly?

I used to work with a gay man. He was honest and open about being gay, and I was honest about my dislike of gays. Even though we disagreed on the gay lifestyle there was a lot of stuff we agreed on. Over the years we worked together we developed a friendship.

During one of our many discussions on being gay, he told me how he had been molested as a child by is uncle. He also confided in me that just about all of his boyfriends had been molested as children.

He also told me that he blamed being gay on being molested as a child. If he had not been molested, he would probably be straight.

I do not believe the "born this way" excuse for being gay. If anything, being gay is the result of a childhood trauma.

Political moves by Christie prevent studies and other evidence from reaching the public eye.

What do people have to be afraid of? Let the gay conversions continue. The truth will come out in the end. To me, it appears the gay community has something to hide by opposing the gay conversions.

Actually, behavior can be influenced by invading entities. Some recent research found that toxoplama (a protozoan parasite) is strongly linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It's also linked to suicide as well as cultural difference between countries.
interesting blog article

This gets even more interesting when you look at the underlying mechanism for some of the behavior changes. The toxoplama gondii parasite creates dopamine. What is dopamine? It's the neurotransmitter responsible for the effects of cocaine and crystal meth - greater energy, excitability, increased sexuality, happiness, enthusiasm. The down side is that increased dopamine is also linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Now ask yourself what the stereotypical gay man is like. You assume someone is gay when... they are energetic, excitable, fabulous, a bit more sexual (tighter jeans and shirts), happy (the word gay literally means happy), and are enthusiastic. Is it possible that some gay men simply have a brain parasite? This parasite is not rare by any means. An estimated 1/3 of all humans have this parasite.

Regardless of cause, there's no valid reason to hate gay people. I think dressing up like anime characters is dumb, but I don't see anyone trying to make cosplay illegal. Some people can embrace their gayness or they can try to change it. That's their choice and the government should stay out of it. What should be illegal is anything that could be called abuse that happens in those gay camps. Forcing kids to strip naked and beat an effigy? wtf? I don't care what this camp is for, but the people running it need to be in jail for life.

Sadly your annecdotal BS holds no weight whatsoever. I know plenty of gay people too. None of them ever molested. Many from two parent completely loving families. You simply can not support your claim in any way other than I know a guy who says...

Fortunately people like you are very quickly becoming a very vocal but very impotent minority.

It gets better. The author of Fight Club is gay.
So because a man is gay, you automatically ignore his social commentary on male identity? How liberal of you. I noticed that nobody addressed that article by Psychology Today. Maybe you googled his name and found that he was gay, so he's just another one of those silly gay people, right?

A gay friend said it best: "I'm attracted to men, and I want them to act like men. If I wanted a relationship with something that acted like a girl, I would date a girl."

Have you ever asked your gay friends directly about the effects of molestation and its relation to sexual preference?

Just because someone comes from a loving family does not mean jack.

What does the gay community have to fear from these so called gay conversion therapy? Lets see some studies, lets see the long term results.

Banning gay conversion therapy screams the gay community is trying to hide something.

No, but you don't think introducing additional sexual confusion to pubescent and prepubescent kids is dangerous?

Additional? If a kid is Gay, they are Gay. Trying to make them Straight is "additional". So ya, you are inadvertently correct, just not in the way you think.

Perhaps minding your own business is something you should consider?

Again. Can you provide any evidence to support your claim?

I posted you a study. Did you read it?

And we excuse your ignorance because you are from Texas.

I think the 'conversion therapy' is compete BS, it's like some therapy to make a left handed person all of a sudden become right handed. That said, I don't see why there needs to be a legal ban on it. If someone wants to try, have at it.

It's not just BS, it's open and sanctioned Brainwashing. I don't want to get on a Slippery Slope rant, but the fact is that People can be forced to conform to practically anything.

If we tolerate Gay Conversion Therapy, what's next? Religious Conversion Therapy? Political Conversion Therapy?

The possibilities are endless.
