Problem is China does not possess enough ships capable of landing troops onto the island.

I doubt the USA would allow a starvation blockade and even if Twain's navy & air force was destroyed, Chinese troops wouldn't make it onto the beaches alive. Twain has prepared for beach landings since they fled from China.

When you hear of China building more amphibious assault craft able to transport troops across 100km+ ocean and land them onto a beach then you can worry. And if they do that everyone knows there coming and can prepare (like building/buying a crap load of anti ship missiles).

But just any other nation, nothing will unite the Chinese people more than General issues like Taiwan. Which is why feel its foolish to get into a pissing contest with China over Taiwan. As it is, a general reunification along a Singapore type autonomy model is the bloodless end result, and probably what the Chinese Government wants in the 30 year long term.

And as the Chinese economy expands, their main worry will be an equally expanding India. And to a certain extent, an expanding Russia that again starts tapping Siberian resources China also covets.

Please, you really have no idea what you are talking about. China is more open only in the economic front. On the political front, CCP is as closed as the day they killed thousands of people in Tianamen square. People opposing CCP still get jailed without going through court and still mysteriously disappear. Group opposing CCP still got put down violently, just ask people in Tibet, Xinjiang and people in Galun Gong. China is putting up more censorship, more anti-west and more nationalist propaganda everyday.

And just because China wants Taiwan, the whole world should just give Taiwan to China and forget about what the 23 million free Taiwanese want? and what's that about Singapore? You don't even know the difference between Singapore and Hong Kong and you are commenting on Chinese Politics?
