Every single board I have been on where there is a topic about china and the Olympics, there are always China apologists, I do not get this. How can any sane person defend or support China?

It's simple. Chinese (PRC) are very proud of their country to the point of being jingoistic.

There are 1,300,000,000+ Chinese in China alone, and many more immigrants across the world.

Assuming even only 5% of those are frequenting forums, there will be at least a few per major forum steadfastly defending their country's image.
 
uh, i don't see how this post necessarily has to belong in P&N. A few threads down there's the 'china revoking visa' thread that has garnered plenty of response. jumping on the 'let's link P&N cause we think it's so fucking witty to do" bandwagon is in a word, idiotic.

Because this is like a pub, if you will. A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn''t say to anyone else. All in good fun mind you.

This type of thread usually invokes name calling... saying someone is an idiot for instance. That type of stuff is best reserved for P&N.

dont believe the media hype. have you ever even been to china? didnt think so.

america has pretty much OKed illegal wiretapping without need for warrants. it has also OKed illegal detention of suspected "terrorists" with no legal counsel and OKs their torture. there have already been reports of innocent people who were mistaken for terrorists who got tortured and imprisoned.

under the bush administration, the power of the executive branch has been increased while the judicial has been weakened.

so if you want to talk about oppressive governments, well guess what, the united states is not a beacon of shining light. especially considering its history.

That's one of the things that bothers me about the China bashing. I don't think many people here really knows what life is like in China -- they have many misconceptions. It's like what would happend if all foreigners base their opinion of what life in the US is like from Al Sharpton. Yes, there is still racism in the US but it's not like all blacks are super oppressed to this day.

And I think the US would be better received if we stopped standing on a pedestal with one hand on our hip and wagging our fingers with the other hand and lecturing China on how to behave. Because we look like idiots based on our own history. China wasn't the ont that invaded Iraq, causing many deaths and ruining that country for no good reason.

We would probably be better received if we go and say, "Look, we just want to give you some advice so you could avoid some of the mistakes we've done in the past".

Yup. nicely put. "heavenly actions" = non existent. U.S. government and media(s) just covers it up better. and why is everyone talking trash about China? there was a celebrity that commented on the China earthquake stating that it was Karma and they deserve it and they don't deserve the Olympics...So was Katrina and 911 Karma and we don't deserve the oil in the Middle East?... people don't really understand these days...almost ignorant and just talk without thinking...I kinda understand why the world hates Americans now...we always think we are right in every issue and we stick our heads into it uninvited.

~ no harm intended....just mad that people just talk without even fully understanding and believes what the media states...
