Chick-fil-A opened up near me

Ok, so you're paying at least 60¢ too much, and that's assuming the sandwich is twice as good as a McChicken which is highly debatable. Also, you're getting thoroughly reamed on the fries and drink. The fries are 5¢ worth of potatoes, and the cup costs more than the drink does in that quantity, and neither are anything special.

i very much doubt their drink or fry prices are out of line with any other fast food. outside of special promos like mcdonalds $1 drink, a 20oz drink is going to run you $1.50+, a 32 oz drink is going to be $1.80+. a large fry is going to be $2.00+. you're complaining about things that all fast food does.

the sandwich is easily twice as good as the mcchicken, which is a gross mechanically pressed piece of mayo slathered chicken assholes. chik-fil-a is an actual piece of chicken. if you want to compare it to something at mcdonalds the comparison is with the southern style chicken sandwich, which is directly aimed at chik fil a (and is apparently more expensive).

lol. So using your logic if we don't eat off of the Dollar Menu or shop at the Dollar store, we're getting ripped off.

Contention - Chik-Fil-A is the same price as other fast food

Fact - it isn't the same price, and is in fact more expensive than almost every other popular choice.

Evidence - Lack of cheap menu choices, and small portion sizes. Additional evidence provided by Quebert as to where the extra money goes.

Or, you're showing support for quality fast food and tolerating the religious beliefs of CFA's founder.

This is what i do. I love their food. I don't like religion for me; but, i respect the owners wishes.

It does suck for me though. I'm more likely to eat out on the weekends than during the week. So when i go out Saturdays, i always try and make it by CFA.

They were also the only place that brought out food to the community college when i went there several years ago. That was great to have that option and not have to rely on snack machines for short lunch brakes.

Edit, five guys are freaking great for burgers and fries. But that is all i've ever eaten at one.

Go to McDonalds and order the Southern Style Chicken sandwich. It's the McDonalds direct copycat sandwich of the Chick-fil-A sandwich. Southern Style Chicken sandwich is smaller and more expensive. It's also not as tasty but taste is subjective. Price and portion size is not.

Compare like with like. It's like all the Starbucks haters saying Starbucks is overpriced because the coffee is $5. No Starbucks coffee is under $2 and in line with Dunkin and any other coffee houses.

They are heavily tied in with many religious groups such as Focus On The Family. Operators of chains give up a large portion of their revenue to be able to keep their store open. This isn't untypical for chains, but they take a lot more than most places, and a good portion of that goes directly to churches and religious organisations. You think it doesn't change the price of your meal, but it absolutely does.

Chick-fil-A pays for the land, the construction and the equipment. It then rents everything to the franchisee for 15% of the restaurant's sales plus 50% of the pretax profit remaining.

That is way more than any other fast food chain, and this is directly why their prices are so much higher than anywhere else. This money that gets donated comes directly from your overpriced meal. Yes the food kicks ass, but the prices are obscene for the amount of food you get. On top of that about 40% of the operators are religious and many have their own tie ins with churches and other orgs. Chick-Fil-A has been sued many times by people claiming discrimination brought upon them because they weren't Christian. Muslim workers have been unjustly fired, and operators have been told to GTFO because they wouldn't attend religious conventions. This is all information you can find on the internet.

It is the only national fast-food chain that closes on Sunday so operators can go to church and spend time with their families; franchisees who don't go along with the rule risk having their contracts terminated. Company meetings and retreats include prayers, and the company encourages franchisees to market their restaurants through church groups.

A guy who rented a franchise sued them because his location was mysteriously revoked from him a few months after he had refused to pray when he attended a one of the mandatory company meeting.

So your argument is that they charge more because they give money away?

Does Bono charge more for concerts? How about Bill Gates, does he charge more for Windows?

And that's virtually Chik-Fil-A's cheapest product. You'd be hard pressed to find anything cheaper on the menu. What I said still stands. Chik-Fil-A's discount product costs as much as McDonalds premium product.

......and the quality of their discount product is better than their premium products.

FWIW I agree, they are more expensive. I also am not being served by the lowest ghetto thugs in the area, relatively trust my food is prepared correctly, and it's consistently good. So I don't mind paying a bit more to get a bit more.

I'd rather go to chickfila and not take a gamble. That being said, they'd get 2x the business from me if they were opened on Sun.

a silver dollar sized pressed chicken asshole patty is cheaper than a chicken breast? you don't say? 😵

chik-fil-a doesn't have a discount product. it's all quality.

I was comparing the new McDonalds southern chicken thing which I haven't had. I found a side by side review online that ranked it equally with Chik-Fil-A. CFA got a marginally better mark for chicken color, and presentation, but otherwise they were identical.

The problem is the quality isn't /that/ great. They're priced in a different class of food, when it's just plain old bog standard fast food. Other choices with price parity that's much better... Dennys, local pit beef stand, Quiznos....

you need to tell people when you switch from the spicy mcchicken cuz otherwise we have no idea what you're talking about.

in the online comparison i found, the mcdonalds product was smaller and more expensive. the flavor was different, but close, with chik-fil-a having a more fried chicken flavor. haven't had the mcdonalds myself.

Most people, me included, don't give two fucks if 1)Chick-fil-a is 60 cents more expensive than McDonalds or whatever and 2)that the founder is religious. Listen, the food fucking rocks, the workers say "my pleasure" after everything and are super nice, and they come to my table and refill my damn drink. I've never had a bad meal at Chick-fil-a. Every single time I've eaten there my sandwich is hot and fresh, my fries are fresh and if I order a salad it's crisp and fresh. I don't care if Jesus himself brought my spicy chicken sandwich out and they raised the prices 50 cents across the board, I'm eating there.

I concur. They make a good product that I have no problem paying a little extra for.

Geeze---I really don't care if something is within $2 of something else. If a $1-$2 difference is going to break you, you're either eating there too often or you really shouldn't be eating out.

That review is probably old. The "Southern Style" chicken sandwich was introduced about 4 years ago where I lived in GA and was very different. It was a near exact copy then (fried in peanut oil, one pickle slice, no condiments, a different patty from the other chicken sandwiches, etc). Eventually, they consolidated and it now uses the same chicken patty as the premium crispy chicken sandwich. They still have a different one for the McChicken, so I guess they got tired of carrying three different fried chicken patties (more if they offer spicy McChicken). The current SS Chicken doesn't taste anything like CFA,it's just prepared CFA style.

I think it's more accurate when you deal with percentages than an actual $ value. A BMW being $2 more than a Toyota isn't so much of a difference. A chicken sandwich meal being $2 more than a competitor is.

Ah, I'm not really familiar with what goes on on the chicken scene. If I'm in a burger joint, I get a burger 90% of the time. I'll occasionally get a chicken at other places, and of course always at CFA.

That does not mess with me as much as the chicken tasting like it was coated with a chemical. Their chicken always tastes weird. But so many are use to additives and other junk I doubt many notice it.

I think you've confused it for the McChicken and the chicken that Burger King uses which tastes like bleach. They have the same food service chicken breasts as everyone else. The "weird" taste of a CFA patty is not the chicken... it's the peanut oil that it is fried in. Of course it's going to taste different. You are too used to the same junk everyone else uses and get hung up on any difference. To me, goat milk and lamb taste "weird," but I wouldn't immediately say that it's because of chemicals and additives... it's because it's not what I am used to. It doesn't mean it can't be good. Stop being distracted by it and enjoy.

You think Denny's has price parity w/ CFA?! LOL! I could barely get out of there for under $20 last time. As for CFA quality vs. price, chicken already costs more at any joint and they don't have a "jr" or value version with a filler patty (like McChicken). They only use the quality/premium breast. Sure, it's not MORE quality than what is available elsewhere, it's just that they have no lower quality / price offerings and, thus, cost more in general.

Absolutely. It's $15 for me and my daughter, excepting a tip. For that I get table service, a better selection of food, and more food. They aren't even close. The only advantage CFA has is speed. As far as that goes, I can go to a local Mexican joint and get food for me and my girl for $15 + tip, and it's one of my favorite places to eat bar none. CFA really is a rip off.

You haven't lived until you've had a CFA Chicken Biscuit for breakfast. Fried chicken in the morning sounds wierd...until you do it!

After their free breakfast stunt last year, they raised prices significantly. I went back once and couldn't get out for much less than $20. After than, I never set foot back in there again.

I like their wraps, freakin delicious.

One of the engineers for my company on a project up the road used to work for an engineering firm that did all the work for Chick-Fil-A. He got to ride in the owner's jet, got tickets to football games, has Chick-Fil-A for life, etc. Said the owner was a pretty decent guy.

I don't care what the hell they do with their money. If they want to give it to churches, so be it. I don't eat fast food all that often and the food is good enough that I don't mind paying for it.

Every place where I lived has had a fried chicken biscuit since before I was born... McDonald's, Hardee's, Mrs. Winners, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, and on and on and on. That's 30 years. It doesn't sound weird to me or anyone I know at all.

I don't have any close to me anymore :^( The one I went to closed down, and some Greeks opened up a retro type diner in it's place. The prices went through the roof, the selection went up, but the quality stayed about the same, or got slightly worse. I really miss Dennys :^(
