That's what clueless was alluding too. I've never owned a gun and haven't shot one in over 30 years. My father has a few that I'll inherit and when that happens I might take a course about gun safety if I decide to keep them. Don't want to shoot off a finger or a toe.

However what you are failing to realize is that if somehow we could remove all the handguns so that even the criminals couldn't get one, the number of crimes wouldn't change. The only thing that would change is the weapon of choice used by the criminals in the commission of their crimes. Guns don't commit crimes, people commit crimes. Criminals don't stop being criminals because you take away their favorite tool. They just find a new tool to replace it.

I don't think a knife would stop a 30 yr old vs a 80 yr old wielding said knife.
Firearms are the ultimate equalizer and everyone should have one. Especially so in the future as America becomes a banana republic and people will shoot you in the face for a dollar.
High walls bullet proof cars and/or rural property can help the elite but 90% of Americans will be subject to gangland warfare 24/7.
