Good thing there's hundreds of militarily equipped police forces there to deescalate the situation!

OK, but what would they actually DO? Im sincerely interested.
No idea, but having literally nobody there would be better than hundreds of cops, so I cannot imagine that someone there with the intent to actually help local residents wouldn't be better.

I don't know what role 'liaisons' would perform in this instance, as I do not know the history behind calling for them. I do know and agree with the notion of having non-police performing a lot of things that police currently do, like domestic disputes, etc.

Rich people are now being impacted; roll out the National Guard!

“Use of unnecessary violence… has been approved”
Lightfoot is about to cry over all the Nike shoes stolen, Nordstrom is a sacred place.

Don't worry, I'm sure they are just one more yuppie progressive mayor away from fixing things.

Maybe they can add some more ridiculous taxes to stack on top of their current ridiculous property tax rates, sales tax rate, and state income rates.

So just let businesses crumble that plenty of people use to be employed? No worries mate! It's only the jobs and livelihood of hundreds of thousands of people.

As their tax revenue continues to dwindle as every person that actually makes money to pay those high taxes continue to move further and further and further away....

Sorry, what? Federal forces not being there will let businesses crumble and cost the jobs and livelihood of hundreds of thousands of people? How did you find the straw for that one?

I'm just waiting for the results of the investigation into Chicago police breaking into Bobby Rush's office and stealing his coffee and popcorn. It's been two months.

Where did anyone mention federal forces (myself included - but also ANYWHERE else in this thread)? We're talking about normal cops here brolociraptor.

Wait...are you saying none of that looting, violence, or damage would have happened if the cops werent there?

He's trying to say that things are worse because of the police being there to stop the looting.

Trying to give the "If they just let them run rampant they won't cause too much harm and will just go home eventually" narrative. It's pretty funny.

Cops called to Englewood to find person with a firearm.
Person with firearm confronted by police. Shots exchanged and person is killed.
Rumor spreads that Cops killed an unarmed child.
Unrest spreads into night time with parts of DT and near north side getting looted.

In case anybody doesn't know Chicago is one of the most segregated (racially and economically) cities in the country. This in a nation that already has MANY such places big and small. Government policy over the decades systematically looted black America and we're surprised when we get looted back from time to time. Also I'm not inclined to pretend many people who are clutching at pearls over this actually give any shits about the people involved on either side but just want to use it as a partisan/ideological stick to beat people with.

I mean, they weren't before. I didn't hear shit about riots until this week. Do you suppose that's a coincidence?

Have you considered the police showed up because people were looting etc?

No, I'm going for the 'if they don't escalate, the citizens won't either, and the people trying to make trouble won't show up to start shit'.
