I think for 10 grand, its a good car to buy.. the ecotec is a good engine, you can also see that with the jump in mechanical quality ratings when it replaced the 2.4L.
Ecotec? Does that mean Chevy is using Opel engines now (Opel engines usually have that ecotec name, Opel is part of GM)?
And yes Opel does make decent engines (they last and use little fuel(in combination with the Opel cars anyway)), but Opels overall quality is ass, since that GM guy is at the helm of Opel, it only took him a few years to destroy Opels image and market share....
just checked the Chevy website, seems like they start to offer some Opels under the Chevy badge -> Malibu Maxx= Opel Signum, Malibu LS = Opel Vectra but I think the Opel Version looks much nicer but that is just me...

i do believe opel is a foreign brand of GM. in fact i am almost positive as that is what i believe some of the early (new) GTO prototypes were based off of.
i wouldnt call the cavalier sucky, it does what it can do for 10grand.
seriously sometimes the people who just rave about foreign cars are beginning to piss me off.
SO many cars have small recalls, but millions of them, its domestic, but the focus i believe has had 12 or so recalls, and it has always been kept sumwhat quiet. Ford is also having problems with their new diesel engines, because they needed to match chevy's hp/torque in the duramax (i believe) and then ford also had to make emmision standards, and they screwed up some stuff on the engine.
someone find a recall list for all cars, i would be interested to see if, 99 and up if possible (i am lazy, and my internet is to slow).

In the town I live in you can go to the junk yard and about 70% of the cars there are Cavaliers. At least if you own a Cavalier and need parts, you know where to go.

Duh...
"/me pages ohtwell" means "I've owned two cavaliers and I loved both"?
Sarcasm on: Forgive me, how could I be so slow?: sarcasm off
Knowing ohtwell owns a Cavalier, ElFenix says "/me pages ohtwell."
/me is the command in IRC that will display your nick, so that means "ElFenix pages ohtwell."
Pages is used in the sense of "Paging Dr. Clue. Can we get a Clue in here?"
ohtwell responds with her input on the topic.
The end.

Sure you arent thinking Holden? AS thats what the prototypes of the GTO were based on, and the production model is based on. Opel is a company that was closely related to Buick through the 60's and got pulled out of the US shortly after, they have a reputation as really really bad cars. Although some of the new ones look sharp.
linkSaturn's S-Series replacement, the 2003 Ion, nearly became General Motors' most important new car. It's the first built on what was to be a global small-car platform named Delta. But GM has scrubbed the global Delta plans--next-generation Opel/Vauxhall/ Holden Astras will share a Fiat platform instead, reducing Ion's importance to providing a hint at the 2005 Chevy Cavalier
I'd buy a Kia before I bought a Cavalier. The warranty is much better and it's probably better built. Cheaper too. Everyone of those girlfriends that owned one got rid of it because of the problems that they had with it. I think every one of them bought a Honda (one bought a Jetta) after the Cavalier and couldn't have been happier after they had lived with a Cavalier. It's a fine car that suits the needs of people who don't require all the bullsh|t.

Isn't this where the Cavalier under-performs?
I know many people who get less mpg than I do in my cavalier, which is usually 30 city and 35 highway. I'm not sure if that's great compared to all cars but I think that it's pretty good.Originally posted by: emu10k2

Insurance is not too bad. Two drivers. One male (23) and one female (22). We pay about $93 a month.Originally posted by: MercenaryForHire

Hmm. Something I don't think I've seen you mention yet here.
Insurance.
Now let's see ... you're a female, age 23 or so (?) ... so just multiply by 6 and I'll get my rate.
