It might not be a sexy as bashing a radio entertainer, but you may want to find something to be rabid about in a Republican that is in a position of power. Congressional minority leaders, etc.

Or, you can keep talking about a mouth-piece whos only goal is to get ratings, and he gets those ratings from people like you being faux-outraged and bringing up his name every five minutes.

Naw, I say look no further, Cheney has it hands down for sheer evil master manipulator, and Rush Limbaugh is just a gas bag apologist for stupidity.

Put those two together, and you got the epicenter of the contagion that has both corrupted the GOP and the larger nation.

But speaking of Colin Powell, a man Cheney and Bush sucked all the integrity out of until there was no more to abuse, he has been oddly silent lately.

Colin Powell was a man both Democrats and Republicans could basically respect. I had hoped Obama would use his talents as somewhat of a roving ambassador, and still hope its in the cards. Powell more than deserves a honorable retirement, but after what GWB&co did to Powell with his last time up at bat, I for one would like to see Colin Powell have another turn at bat, hit his usual home run, and thus erase the ugly memory of being used. It must be hard for an ultimate team player like Powell to understand how his team mates stabbed him in the back.

I find it interesting that there are plenty of comments on the OP's commentary but no comments for or against Cheney's choice of the future of the GOP. Pretty strong statement right there, IMO.

Limbaugh is so far right that I'm not sure he goes too far around the circle and runs into the ass of the left. I guess a center-right person, such as Powell, isn't what the average GOP'er wants.

Like it or not, Cheney is right. The Republicans, as they are now, are indeed better served by the likes of Limbaughs, Cheneys, and Palins than it is by moderates like Specter and Powell. However, this is largely because the Republican party has morphed into more of a fascist, theocratic model over the last 20 year, and thus these guys fit right into the mold. Accepting moderates and trying to be more "inclusive" dilutes the ideology. The Republican party shouldn't exist for its own sake; it should stand for something.

Of course, I don't necessarily agree with that something that it stands for, and if the vast majority of Americans don't either then it deserves to be marginalized.

Time for a new political party: Center-right, with nods toward being socially progressive, yet fiscally conservative.

I think we may agree, Obama has said that Limbaugh is the leader of the republican party.....

As far as your original point, it's hard to rally behind Powell when he is constantly tearing down the party and he backed Obama.

An Army officer that was known as an Uncle Tom by the left until he started speaking out against the right. How is it that the left now holds an Army officer in such high esteem, it wasn't that long ago the left was running adds against General "Betray Us".

As far as Chaney's standard they aren't that high, Powell has been bashing the Republican party, he voted for Obama, is that so hard to believe?
