Chapped lips

iamme

Lifer
so, i kinda have full lips and they get chap rather often, especially w/ the dry, colder weather coming. besides burning through tube after tube of chapstick, are there other things i can do to prevent chapped lips? home remedies?

:lips:

Blistex Medicated Balm w/sunscreen SPF 15.

About $2.00 comes in a lil greenishblue thingamajig and it works great.

i'm wondering if there are other things besides always carrying a tube of chapstick. i hate being tethered to it and always having to remember it.

Stop using chapstick. Stop licking your lips. It will get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

yep...
i have "larger" lips as well, and they get very chapped.
what i do is get a teaspoon of sugar, and a bit of vasoline.
i mix the two together and apply the mixture on my lips rubbing in circular motions. Let it sit for about 2 minutes and rinse it gently with warm not hot water. then, apply a VERY moisturizing lip balm (even more vasoline) on them. do that a few times per week.
also, drink more water than usual and use a lip balm before going to bed too.
it works!

Good stuff, but I found the non-medicated Blitex "Daily Conditioning Treatment" to be better, without the menthol that's in the medicated one.

They both come in tiny little tubs and are applied with your finger. Use whenever your lips feel the least bit dry and your lips will remain soft and supple. The Medicated comes in the blue tub, and the DCT comes in a yellow/tanish tub.

Trust me, I have large, full lips and suffered with chapped lips for most of my youth. This stuff has saved me.

The thing is, once you use it for a week or so your chapped lips will be no more, so you won't need to have it 24/7. Although I must admit during winter I have to carry chapstick around with me, MN winters are just too harsh.

so you don't need to apply anything all day? see, i think it's different for men and women...don't you have lipstick on all day?

Yep. Chapstick, Vasoline, etc. have been proven to make you feel temporarilly better but also to prolong and even cause chapped lips. Those products trick your body into stopping producing the natural chemicals your lips need to be healthy. Basically, you become dependant on them. The only way is to go cold turkey. Once you are off them, remember you have an addiction. Only use it sparingly and only temporarilly on the worst chapped lips days.

how come you can't use lotion on your lips and have them moisturized all day? is the skin on your lips that different from the skin on the rest of your body?

You don't NEED to, but i still have my lip balm with me in my purse. when i am out side or in a dry air area, i make sure my lips have balm on them, but that helps in really taking the dry skin away, keeping them smooth, moisturized and soft.

I rarely wear any lipstick and mostly just have lip gloss on top of lip balm.
plus, most lipsticks are VERY drying.

Bah, I have a lifetime with large, full lips that says this is full of crap. No matter what I tried, my lips were horrible unless I regularly used lip balm. In my youth, I was too stupid/lazy to do it. About 15 years ago I gave up and started carrying the Blistex with me all the time. My lips have never been chapped since.

i hate the feeling chapstick makes my lips feel, though

like i have this gooey crap on my lips all day... and thye are noticeably gooey

hmm... could be

how many "strokes" is recommended? (waiting for obvious jokes to ensue...)

Use the stuff in the little tubs and your finger to apply it. A very thin film should be enough.
