It's late and I've been researching phone plans for Los Angeles. I'd LOVE to go with NEXTEL, but it's too expensive for me.

It's late at night. Post any suggestions for service plans or phones you have for me, or just rant about your own phones or services.

Radiolinja :). Well, I'm in Finland.... I have been thinking about changing operator to DNA, since they offer unlimited GPRS-Data for 99fims/month (about 15 US-$). Of course, they (and every other operator in Finland) has all the other services as standard (SMS, WAP, Voice-mail, Caller-ID etc. etc. etc.)

I checked out a bunch when I bought my phone. Cingular/Sprint are WEAK in CA, AT&T covers just about the whole state. So reception for the first two come in only in small, specific areas, and the latter has a widespread system.

Verizon. That is what I have, and works well. I got a StarTac phone for $50 after rebate, and it is WAP enabled ( web surfing! ) not only that, but Newegg sells huge 1400 mAH batteries, that last for like 2 weeks when fully charged, and they are only $7. I bought 5 :)

SprintPCS for me. Ive had it for almost a year now and have never had a problem (*knocks on wood*). I really like the fact that my night & weekend minutes start at 8pm.

<< Cingular (i'm unhappy with it) >>

Booooooooo-urns. Their reception in CA is abominable. I'm leaving them as soon as the contract is up.

I have Cingular as my personal cell phone and Nextel for work.

CINGULAR SUCKS MAJOR @SS!

Nextel on the other hand....rocks. I get reception in alot of places Cingular doesn't. The 2-way radio on the Nextel phones are cool too :)

ATT is awesome. However, customer service sucks. some lady wanted me to buy a new phone even though it was still under warranty.
i called again and got a different lady who made an exchange. excellent service. BTW...sprint sucks

Damn, i was just at AT&T's website and they don't offer any phones that I like. :(

Verizon and Sprint both offer those cool Samsung phones that I like, but I'll probably go with AT&T anyways.

I'm surprised nobody has a Nextel plan. :Q

Verizon has extensive coverage and their customer service is awesome.

I recommend Verizon. I don't think you'll go wrong, unless you home and/or work happens to be in a weak spot. There are some weak spots (where the phone won't work indoors) on every network, but in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, Verizon really is the best choice according to just about everyone who has tried different providers. I have yet to find a total hole (phone won't even work outdoors) in service in this area with Verizon, whereas they were fairly common with Sprint PCS.

I say Verizon. It just works. (And customer service is friendly and helpful!)

Sorry, don't have a phone and don't plan on getting one, if someone really wants to get a hold of me, they'll call me at home. If not, then they aren't important enough to know where I am.

Not even me? :(

I hear you. ;) I don't like having people having access to me, but I've realized that getting a cell phone will make my life easier in so many ways.

I've been very happy with Verizon. My girlfriend's had AT&T for about two weeks now, I think she averages about 5 minutes per call before it gets dropped. Absolutely horrible.

With all the different jobs I do, I need mine. I also just like to have it. It's convenient.

This is a thread for people who have one or are considering getting one, so if you are somehow opposed to mobile voice communication, either for yourself, or God forbid, others, find or make a different thread.

Thank you.

My wife and I use Nextel. For both phones its 98 bucks a month. sounds expensive but we get anytime unlimited long distance. We use our cell phones for ALL long distacne calls so our land line bill is just the phone charge where as before our land line bill with our long distance calls was well over 140 a month, so we do save money.

Also the Nextel Direct Connect feature if awesome!

It all depends on your location...

But, I've used Sprint PCS for years now and see no reason to leave. Admittedly, the coverage is a little sparse once you travel in to the boondocks, but... So long as you're near/around a metropolis, on major highways/interstates/freeways, you'd be hard pressed to find a better service. The Wireless Web is fantastic, Voice Command is neat, yada yada. Oh, and I like their phones better. The small Samsungs truly fit in your pocket, instead of having to carry a holster with you all the time. :)
