I guess I wouldn't know because I have my Windows 7 set to Classic mode. All skins are ugly, including Windows 7's.

Either way though it makes no difference except the skinning is getting tiresome and only slows applications down. How much time do you spend using the control panel that you want it to look flashy?

If you find Classic Mode in Windows 7 more attractive than Aero, it is a safe bet you and I are never ever going to agree on what looks best lol. Not that I think Aero is end all be all of skins, but compared to Classic....

Skinning doesn't slow applications down. Aero does because they added in WindowsFx features from Stardock (the max/min fade effect), but not because of the Aero skin itself...especially since it is run via the gpu now. I don't care about the control panel looking flashy per se, but I do like having a sophisticated look to my desktop and software GUI's that have at least some sense of aesthetics to match. For lots of people a nice GUI is all part of enhancing the desktop experience, and that is why Apple has done so well, and why Microsoft, and others, decided to copy them.

But Apple has a nice clean GUI. Microsoft and all these software developers make cheesy looking skins!

What's wrong with Classic? It's clean and simple. I just set the colors to light grey instead of cream, make the title bar color the same grey, and change the font to Verdana

So what was the point of your post? I don't see anything wrong with the drivers, I just see people with unrealistic expectations and trolls.

My card hasn't committed suicide either, huge plus right there.
 
I checked out this thread to see if there were people who've tried the drivers themselves yet, but I've come up empty.

I'm going to test the drivers myself and form my own conclusions.

I have, seems the Cat AI settings have gone back to what they were pre-10.10. Other than that, I don't see anything else different.

The new UI is nice, but that's about it.

I'm also missing MLAA. I heard there's a setting for EQAA in the inf's somewhere.

The important thing is will it fix the issue with Return to Castle Wolfenstein - it is an old game but a goody that ATI f'd up a while back with their newer drivers. You can copy an older DLL file in to the game folder but it still crashes.

Works fine for me (using the new UI version, replacing 10.10d). I got a few extra points in the 3DMark11 score, and pretty much the rest of my games worked the same as before. No problems with my Radeon Profiles either.

MLAA still works for me, and they FINALLY fixed the glitch they've had since 10.4 that revved up my clock speed to the max while I idled. I know the 10.11s fixed it too, but those didn't work for the 6870 cards. I used Sapphire's OC program Trixx to keep it low, but now I can stick with ATI Overdrive instead.

My understanding is no, but then I have never had the opengl issue with any of their drivers, but maybe I am special.
 
These are a FAIL as far as I'm concerned. Can't seem to get Arma 2 to work nearly as well (10fps less) than 10.11. OK the AF shimmering of trees is reduced but instead we have blatant hiccups as camera pans in benchmark. Is smooth frame rate too much to ask with new drivers rather than the biggest peaks and troughs I've ever seen in GPU usage. Unigine-98% all the way through. Arma 2 0% or 99% every other second WTF?

As for 'HUGE' AMD are trying to make me buy Nvidia next which I haven't done since my ti4600 refused to draw the grass in Battlefield 1942 and my Radeon 9700 pro came to the rescue.

These are fail because they crash every time I run the Starcraft 2 Map Editor (haven't tried anything else, so I don't know if anything else has issues).
Ran fine with 10.10.some letter.

Edit: Back to 10.10c and it's working fine again.
(HD6850, Win 7 x64)

Just venting, but my personal 10.12 wishlist fixes:

1) The recently introduced WMV acceleration seems to not work very well. I get audio hiccups and framerate jumping watching HD streams in 7MC. Plays smooth when I uninstall it.
2) The GPU is prioritizing the video playback clocks over 3D clocks when both are happening at once. Watch TV in 7MC while playing a game and I get 400/900 instead on 850/1200 on my 5770. Same on my 5850. This didn't use to happen.

With CF profiles unlinked from the drivers, AMD really needs to scale back from monthly driver releases. With multiple driver teams working from different codebases releases tend to be either two steps forward, one step back at best. Occasionally we see 1 step forward, two steps back with the reintroduction on old bugs.

1) Sometimes downclocks my HD5850 to 157/300 in idle with 2 screens = screen corruption and weird tearing on both desktops when moving the cursor
2) MLAA disappeared - tried restarting, no change. Unless it's in a new place now?


GOOD :
1) CCC2 is kinda nice, the advanced one. Somehow it's easier to navigate now.

Conclusion? Back to 10.10e for me.
 
1. That's a bug fix. People like me didn't like that since FW 10.4 the clock revved up to max speeds while idle since it increased temps unnecessarily. It is working like it used to, but it leaves a glitch with XF owners that they need to address.

2. The MLAA mode only supports 6xxx cards in official drivers. The unofficial drivers (hotfixes) have it working for non 6xxx cards, and perhaps it'll be added to official drivers one day.

All the drivers pre-10.11 have idle clocks at 400/1125 for me with 2 screens. 3D clocks are 860/1125. How is it a bug fix if it causes screen corruption on the desktop? It's actually introducing a bug - can't really use my desktop with all the weird stuff happening... If I unplug one screen, then the problem is gone (obviously). Not really a solution either, is it now? 😉

And the lack of MLAA killed it for me pretty much. Good thing there's nothing wrong with 10.10e! 🙂

EDIT: The usual behavior for me using 10.10e and older drivers is:

2D idle + 1 screen -> 157 / 300
2D idle + 2 screens -> 400 / 1125
UVD mode -> 400 / 900 (causes a small flicker/tear when switching on/off - due to memory clocks/voltage changing, no biggie)
3D mode -> 860 / 1125

With 10.12s:
2D idle + 1 screen -> 157 / 300
2D idle + 2 screens -> 157 / 300 (desktop unusable) or 400 / 1125 (no problems then) + flicker/tear when switching...
UVD mode -> 400 / 900 (same as above)
3D mode -> 860 / 1125


EDIT2: And I hope AMD doesn't start to differentiate even more aggressively ... since MLAA is working great on my HD5850. "We decided do disable DX11 support on HD58xx and lower cards, HD6xxx and higher are better suited for it" or some other nonsense...

They been addressing that since driver version 10.5 (May) and they still can't get it right.
