Before 10.5, my 5770 (single screen) idled with low clock speeds. After that, it would always rev up one of them, increasing temps. That's a bug. It may have been done for dual screen users, but I shouldn't have to have my card partially maxing out while idle if I don't want to.

I kept 10.4 until I got my 6870 and used 10.10d, but the problem still continued so I used Sapphire's Trixx program to keep it under control. Now with 10.12, the bug is fixed, and now AMD needs to fix your problem but in a different way.

They been addressing that since driver version 10.5 (May) and they still can't get it right.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem with Catalyst Overdrive and dual screen? Apparently when I enable Overdrive, it will drop the GPU to 175MHz when idling and that's not enough to power dual screen without artifact. Without Overdrive enabled, it idles at 400MHz, and that's more reasonable. So this means I can't really use Overdrive while running dual screen.

bios flash and adjusted bios or msi afterburner.

I'm not sure why it's hard to have it so if someone has more than one display being fed (or if Eyefinity is enabled), send out more power with Overdrive turned on. That way, everyone is happy.

My 3DMark06 went from 19,xxx to 14,xxx everything being equal very curious. May have to go back to the 10.10e hotfix.

I have 4870 crossfire. For kicks I tested 10.12 vs 10.4 in GRID and Just Cause 2.

10.4 was 15-20% faster in GRID and 13% slower in JC2. GRID is the main game I play right now but I thought it was interesting. I'm going to bench a bunch of other drivers as well...

10.12's allow me to force AA settings in JC2, and I couldn't do that with 10.4.

I like the new layout but they have made presets both easier and harder to do. It's much easier to create a preset, but there's no way to edit or even rename them. In old CCC we could at least overwrite them. Also I do not see the option to pick what parts of the CCC the preset should save when you create them. In the old CCC you could hit checkboxes.

Removed the 10.12 display driver, installed just the display driver from 10.10e and presto - everything is working perfectly again. I have MLAA back, card idles at 400 / 1125 with two screens. No screen corruption or tearing at the desktop. I also noticed my Flash plugin in FF4 to crash all the time with 10.11s and 10.12s... Back to 10.10e and all is smooth again!

So for me the 10.11s and 10.12s are a joke. Stay away.

With 10.10e's display driver:

The version numbers are actually the year.month of release so.. 10.14 is.. Febrember 2010?

Actually they are Year.Release # of the year.
Hence how there was 8.13 or 9.13, something had a 13.
They try and do a monthly schedule so it ends up being in accord with the months, but they have had a 13 release year before.

Nice, I might have to try that.

i dont know why everyone is having so much trouble with 10.12, i just installed from 10.10a and i like it better, seems to bring smoother gameplay to higher resolutions imo. and increases crysis by a frame or two when using the "benchmark_GPU" for 10.10 and for 10.12

for 10.10a it was average 34fps for 10.12 it was 35-36 fps average on a 4850
