cat or a dog?

depends. where do you live ( house or apt). Do you go away for extended periods of time? There are tons of questions that should be asked.

i have a house with a yard, and am home a decent amount of time, but my roommate is usually home when im not. i have always had a dog growing up, but was kinda wondering about a cat, but dont know much about them

I'd get a dog because I'm a dog and kitten person (Cats = evil)

How much time a week will you spend with him playing outside?

Dogs will worship you.
Cats will tolerate you, sometimes.

I had a cat growing up and had a couple more as an adult.
But they all ended up peeing on my carpet.

I have a dog now and prefer them to cats.
But a dog is more work. You can leave cats home alone while you go on vacation for a few days. Can't do that with a dog.

The cat could care less, just leave a bag of cat food ripped open and have someone come over and change the litter box once a month

Get a basset. The dog will sleep whenever you are gone and make great pets. If you are still in the IN area, take a look at GABR.

I can't figure out why anyone would get a cat in the first place. Heck, a hamster shows about as much devotion and affection towards it's master as a cat does. A dog though... you're the dog's best friend. A cat doesn't give a sh!t about you, as long as it's got food and a clean litter box.

Great dogs. My girlfriend and I adopted Stella through GABR. She has turned out to be the perfect dog for us.

Cats are 10X easier to take care of and train.

Cats are boring. They just sit around and claw at stuff. Dogs you can truly play with.

Cats aren't trainable.

My cats were actually very affectionate. They spent a lot of time wanting to be on my lap and get pet.

Both of my cats, which by the way are only 4 months old, come when I call them... they know what no means, and they obey when I say no. They learned to use the litter box in about 30 seconds... they learned where to scratch and where not to scratch in a manner of weeks. So... cats can be trained... you just have to be smart enough to train them =)

Also untrue... my cats constantly follow me around the house... if they're sleeping and I leave the room for more than 5 minutes, they come looking for me. It all depends on the cat, on you, and how you treat the cat.

When it comes to using the litter box what do you call that?
