Cat got locked in room for 5 days :(

So my wife and I went out of town for 5 days and got back home this past Tuesday to find out that one of our two cats snuck into our bedroom and hid under the bed before we left for our trip.

They tend to do this from time to time where they'll sneak as quiet as they can into a room behind us without us ever knowing and hide somewhere then next thing we know we're watching TV a hour later and hear meowing at a door, well this time we were gone for 5 days.

Poor kitty 🙁

We took her to the vets right away and they gave her fluid and ran $200 worth of test.

They said she started to process her fat reserves (which she has a lot of) based off of her liver results and that we basically have to make sure she eats or else it could turn into a big issue down the road.

The worst part is we even asked our neighbor/friend to check in our back window that looks into our living room to confirm she saw both cats and she said she did see them both, so either she lied or saw something like a couch pillow and thought it was her.

Kitty it happened to

Chances are if it was our skinny cat that had been trapped he'd probably have been way worse off.

We'll be extra sure to never let that happen again.

I'm working on getting a web cam set up now that I can log into to make sure I can see them both when we're out of town next time.

1. double check the cats have access to food/watter/litterbox
2. keep all doors wedged open so it doesn't happen again
3. give someone keys so they can actually go in and check on the cats
4. trade cats in for cactii

btw, where did the cat poop and pee?

It's a cat. It'll be fine. You should have let it out, given it food and water, watched it walking around ok and went on with your life.

On one of the mats/rugs in the bathroom and some towels that she must have pulled down from one of our hand/towel rails.

She used the mat for pooping and the towels for peeing.

I took a black light to the whole room just to make sure she didn't go anywhere else, especially the bed, but I'd think most cats wouldn't go to the bathroom where they like to sleep...

QFT, not everyone is meant to have pets.

Hire a fucking pet sitter next time. I believe leaving an animal confined and unattended is illegal in many states regardless if water and food are just thrown out.

Instead of going through the trouble of setting up a webcam you could just leave the door open next time...

Waaah! They are animals. They survived with out human supervision for millions of years. They can go a few days more without it.
