cat, dog, turtle, fish or gunea pigs? now with POLL!

1) Well they sleep about 20 hours a day so... Its sort of hit or miss with cats. We have 3 over here and 2 just sit around all day but the other one is crazy. The more they are handled as really young kittens the better. Easy to take care of.
2) Dont get a dog if you arent going to be there all that much.
3) I have a red-eared slider. Its an aquatic turtle so he has a 30 gallon tank of water to take care of. They crap a lot so its a decent amount of work to clean it out. Then there are the regular water changes. Id say its about a .5-1 hours of work a day and then about 1-2 hours every other week or so to change the water.
4) Just have to make sure you feed them and do the water changes.
5) These things crack me up. Most tend to be scared of everything. Youll just have to clean the cage from time to time.

Id say go with 1 or 5. They would be the most fun. 3 and 4 are fun to watch but other than that kinda boring. Dogs need a lot of attention so I dont think they would be a good option for you.

cats are more independent and also toilet trainable to boot. dogs need a lot of attention.. turtles are stupid. guinea pigs suck... require a lot of maintenance (cleaning out shavings, crap on a regular basis) and they don't do much either just chill all day. they are skittish and not fun either.

now some more questions:

1. Should i get a kitten, even if i dont have time to play with it will it be cool in the house by itself?
2. Should i get a pound cat, like a stray one?
3. Should i get it declawed?
4. Should i get two cats or is one gonna be fine by itself?

Turtles aren't active. Guinea Pigs aren't house trained. Fish aren't cute and cuddly.

1. & 2. Get a pound cat. It'll be mature and wont have any surprise quirks that appear after the adjustment period. Find one that seems interested in you.
3. Don't get it declawed to start. Get it a good scratching box (they make them out of cardboard, andput nip or somesuch in them, cat's love em). If scratching is a problem, you can always declaw later. Declawing is...mean, so it should be a last resort.
4. Two cats would probably be happier, but one will live.

I did not just want to leave the dog outside most of the time and not interact with it; used the wrong word to describe that. Cats from the general consensus are more independent and do not necessarily need as much attention at dogs.

Perhaps a little research on the "Black Death" in Europe is in order for you. Our cats technically do crap in the house but they do it in boxes we provide for that function and they generally are not in the habit of clawing us.

Who said anything about me picking a dog? I would not have a pet, but if it were up to me I would pick a nice medium/big dog, like a lab or retriever. A dog I could wrestle with, play sports with, chill out with, and would be a good alarm for any thieves. Besides cats catching mice, I really dont see why people would want them? The same goes for those purse dogs that chicks have, I find them totally worthless.

Clearly, you never had a cat. They are excellent pets. And who said anything about you picking a dog? It was pretty obvious where you were going with this from the start, and you just confirmed it? why are you protesting?

i'd say get a rat. rats are really cool.. i've had a few of them. they can chill with you, riding around on your shoulder, or in your hood. and they're really smart too. you can teach them to do lots of tricks. and honestly, i thought chicks would hate them.. but most chicks thought they were really cool. ya know. and the few that didnt like them at first, loved them when they got to know them. rats arent really a cuddly animal, but they're definitely an awesome pet.. though they have life spans of like 2-3 years.. they die from cancer and tumors mostly... but they're easy to take care of... dont mind being alone, and they're really cute too. so i'd say go for a cat, a rat, or get a digipet.

a friend of mine has one and i dont think she spends a lot of time taking care of it, no scent issues that i have detected.

as for longetivity i cant comment, but you may be correct
