Read, The Gambler, by Dostoevsky.

This is why I stay away from games of chance. The high is hard to resist, and the lows one feels, well, they are quite low.

Edit: My poison of choice is card games, black jack at the casino, and poker at parties. I've even been known to cut the deck.

Quit playing a game with high odds FOR the casino, after that stop with the parody threads.

The odds on roulette are some of the best in the house, I bet only Red, which I believe gives me about a 48.7% chance of winning.

I was going to post this thread anyway, I just thought the title was apt.

No I understand mathematics even though I failed calc 2 once. I do play poker with the guys though but I'm sure not to drink and play tight till the end.

I've never played poker. I've heard it's fun, I just like to go in and I'm out and done in 20 minutes. That's what happened last night.

Story of my life. It's mirrored in my actions.

You just got 5 respect points, comrade.

The only way to stop it is not to go, but it is fun to go, fun if you win, and if you lose, you should just play a little more to make it back.

You can even begin to fool yourself with betting strategies, and schemes. In the end, the only winners at casinos are the house and those that have millions to go home to. However, if you go in with the thought that you'll only spend 100 pounds, or whatever, it can be a good form of entertainment.

Agreed, the problem is I have no self control, if I have access to the money while I'm there I'll spend it. Last night was the perfect example, I went in and decided I'd only spend £40....

Sorry to say this, but when it comes to table games, there are 3 with better odds. BJ, Baccarat and Craps.

Poker is a lot more fun with more skill. You have to account for variables such as chip count, bluffing, position, betting strats, etc. In otherwords you can effect game vs playing a losing game. At casino craps has best odds but it's still ~52% in houses favor, rest of the games are horrendous.

Well roulette (given that you bet either red/black odd/even) it's only 51.2% in the houses favour, so that's good! :D

I feel that, I too have that problem. I can espouse great advice all day, whether or not I take it is an entirely different matter.

I view gambling at the same level as drugs. Instead of burning herbs or rocks, you burn cash. My personality type, low impulse control, is not suited for gambling.

That says roulette with double zero, we don't have that here, I always though roulette was a good one...

Single 0 is still about halfway down the list.

Anyway, learn craps. It's a lot of fun when everybody is rooting for you, because usually, when you win, others win too.

I already told you what has better odds.

I know but I don't know any of the games...?

Knowing the game, one of the tips in my link.

Oddly, I am only addicted to gambling when I am in Vegas. o_O

I live in L.A. and have lived in Palm Springs, but have never had any desire to go into any of those local Casinos.

Generally, I win money at Blackjack, and blow it on Craps. ;)

I don't gamble. I find it too stressful and I rarely win anything. I have never come out ahead. Then again my only experiences have been:

- A few poker nights where I broke even once and lost everything twice (total losses about $50)
- A few scratch games totaling maybe $50 spent and won $2

Never been to a casino.

I guess some people are able to enjoy gambling even if they lose in the long term because of the occasional short-term gains. Over time it's just a hobby that they spend money on, like any other hobby. For me, though, gambling is like throwing money into the wind and hoping it blows back to you. Hell, I have a really, really hard time just playing the silly prize games at fairs and amusement parks. I'm convinced they're rigged and can't just play them for fun and hope that I get a prize.
