Car shoppers: what you wanted vs what you settled for.

Wanted: New 2011 Ford Fiesta 5-door (hatchback) 5-speed manual with Sync for about $15,500.
Getting: New 2011 Toyota Corolla 5-speed manual for $13,506.

$15,500 probably was a little unrealistic for the Fiesta, which probably would have been $16-17K, so let me ask: Most things equal beyond a style/brand preference, is it silly to give up on the car you really wanted over a few thou' or is that more than enough reason for most to jump ship?

Wanted: something with AWD, six cylinders, four doors, under 80k miles, automatic, Japanese.
Got: 2006 G35x, 70k miles.

I would've preferred to go newer, and get the updated body design, or even better, the 37, but this fit the budget.

As for your other question, OP... it depends on how flexible your budget is, but over a question of a couple thousand, I'd get the car I really wanted instead.

I went with the cheaper car just a month ago when I had the same decision to make. I'm quite happy with my decision. Pretty much got all the bells & whistles of the more expensive car at a lower cost, and more money left in my bank account which is always nice.

My Choices: Cadillac CTS Coupe AWD Premium (~$53K), Audi A6 Premium(~$58K), and Chrysler 300 AWD ($46K)

Ended up with Chrysler 300S V8 AWD

Was looking for an Accord Coupe 08-up for a while and settle for an 06 4 door civic.
Was going to spend $15K++ vs paying $9K for the Civic.
A nice looking economical car.

How the heck do you get a 300 to $46k?

Looking at a 2012 Mustang GT500, doesn't like the idea that i will owe the bank money for a few years. Settled on a 2012 GT instead, no monthly payment FTW.

Wanted - 91-95 Toyota MR2 Turbo
Bought - 91 Toyota MR2 Turbo

Wanted - 2004 Subaru Forester XT
Bought - 2004 Subaru Forester XT

If you were paying cash for a $3x,000 car, and wanted the GT500...you should have done the Boss 302 for $7k more.

I wanted a <10k mile 2006 M3 Competition Package in White on Black Leather. Ended up with 25k miles and silver (which looks much better in person). I was also debating the 2012 Charger SRT8...I am glad I got the M3 now. Gets a lot of attention.

The 911 vs a four door electric car is like comparing water and fire.

Also that $5000 deposit represents 10% of the MSRP of that car...I am sure Tesla will get many deposits to play with...I could see someone putting the $40k down on one of the limited to 1000 unit models, but even then

Not if you live in silicon valley, also I decided to get a track only car later down the road - say an elise.

Re: Tesla, they got 6K orders, not sure how many are the signature model - but I met quite a few of them at the factory tour earlier this year. They aren't limited to 1K, just that the first 1K delivered will be the signature model.

I considered the Boss 302 as well. But i will never take my car to a track or a drag strip, kinda a waste to get a Boss. The Boss also missing all the Premium features such as power seats, Sync, My color, Leather seats, Glass roof etc. So i settled on a Premium GT with Glass roof.

Wanted: Chevy Trailblazer 4x4, green in color preferable, with a locking rear axle.

Settled for: Chevy Trailblazer 4x4, green in color, non-locking rear axle.

I can always install a locker later if I want to.

Wanted: 2011 Mustang GT premium 6 speed, track pack
Got: 2011 BMW 335i Sport/Premium/Navi JB4 🙂

Very satisfied
