Doesn't work that way on mine at all. There's basically no alarm at all except for pressing the "panic" button the remote.

Your car alarm is junk. The factory alarm on my Altima goes off if you unlock the door from the inside then open it using the outside handle.

Edit: And inside handle too.

Not my fault...? I just bought the car. It's not like it matters anyway. If a car alarm goes off people go, "Ugh, another person set off their alarm. Annoying!"

It's not like, "Omg there's a thief! I must catch at least a glimpse of them and warn the authorities!"

I had a 4 digit alarm in my car, complete w/ battery powered siren, cut offs, hidden install, prox sensors, etc.

they busted my window, cut my battery cables (the alarm/siren kept on going) and jacked my shit anyway.

I sold car alarms for years. The only ones that were any good were the old school Code Alarms that would randomly honk your horn while the alarm was going off. It sounded like someone was trapped in the car and freaking out. People would actually go check out the car because it sounded like someone was dying.

Now...now no one cares. Walk up to cars in any parking lot and kick tires to see how many alarms you can set off. No one will even look. If a real thief wants your stuff, he's going to get it. If he wants your car he can disable any security in a matter of seconds. He can shatter your window without setting off any shock sensor and grab anything inside. I've seen some steal car alarms just to be dicks.

this is not 100% true IMHO


Alarm = first layer of defense


Won't protect against smash and grab 100% of the time but a good alarm will prevent your CAR from getting jacked. Of course, if someone brings a tow truck then it's game over.

Alarms can be bypassed in 30 seconds flat. Doesn't matter how much you spend on the thing, they all work the same way.

I would love to see you disable my alarm in 30 seconds since it's located in the rear quarter panel complete w/ multiple cut off points including fuel.

Mine are in the driveway 30' away but with all the noises inside, a/c, tv, fans the wife runs for white noise, I might not hear it.

I live next to a funeral home so I'm guessing/hoping they are non responsive, too.

I'm not a thief, I just speak from experience.

My experience is that anyone who believes their alarm is located anywhere other than under their dash has been lied to.

...except I saw said brain unit in the rear quarter panel when I went back to get some grounding issues fixed.


if you were still a car audio installer and I went up to you and offered you good money to install my alarm in the rear quarter panel and would you instead install it under the dash and lie to me?

cuz if that's "your experience"...

nope. I'd explain that your car requires a security module that has to be installed within X number of feet from your ignition.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, just that it's not usually done. And when it is done...the connections are still all under the dash.

The first one is common. Alarms all disable the car if the brain is removed. I said bypass, not remove. I won't go into detail because thieves don't need help.

The second thing sounds freaking cool. Sounds like a bitch to install but really cool option to have.

So yes I was wrong. But you do have to admit that the things you are describing are not anywhere near the norm and for sure not factory like Trident has.

definitely - I paid an arm and a leg for it to have the best security possible. Learned a good lesson about keeping car audio equipment safe though (needs to be more hidden)
