I suppose lesson learned, you shouldnt leave anything visible.. but still, he has a completely average car with a pretty average looking bag. Frankly, I don't really think it's all that uncommon for people to leave things in their cars, and I do think he just got unlucky this time around. But as I said, lesson learned :-/

I've like like an LCD monitor, backpack etc in my car in the city. Anyway, I have such an overwhelming pile of trash in my car that I don't think people even bother searching through all the junk to find something of value. I can put like an old mcdonalds bag over my laptop while I run in somewhere and it's fine.

There's two ways to deal with theft #1 a super clean *i dont have anything in here* car, or #2 a "There is so much shit and trash the person who drives this car MUST be poor" obscuring the good stuff if I ever leave it in there.

Your car is too clean actually IMO. Anything sitting out is too obvious. You either have a ton of shit or nothing at all.

lol. I just don't want to pay for it all. I rather have money for things that are actually worth my pay. That's not being irresponsible, if anything.. very responsible. Using my money for what's actually worthwhile in the long run? Sounds responsible.

This is one reason why no one should have any sympathy for you. Keep sucking on the parental tit, you'll grow up a lot faster that way.

I would guess that the majority would/did let the parents help out financially during college. Only a few would/were more self reliant.

But the problem is it's his car, he's the one who left a backpack in plain sight and yet he doesn't want to pay to fix the broken window.

It looks great. I just got the window broken and don't want to pay for the replacement.

It looks great? It looks like every other late 90s hoopty Civic in existence. It's not like it's such an amazing, great rare car. Plus it's an automatic.

And, you're a douchebag for not paying for your own window. I paid for the replacement front windshield in my truck, that was $150, just because it had a crack in it.

I hope you didn't lend them $200... they obviously have no financial sense...
Why, yes. I do.():)

$100.00 to $1000.00 at 35% simple interest. Average length-8 month installment contract. At present, 505 accounts with $330K outstanding. Before the uneducated blast me for my rate, I'll throw out some facts about the industry.

30%+ past due at any given time and has been this way since I have been in it. Makes the mortgage crisis look like a petty cash problem.
10% charge off/loss each and every year. Keep in mind this is my $$ not a large corporation. I tried for some tarp funds but....
Average customer fico score is 500.

I do make good $$ but some times I think penny stocks would be better.

Completely agree but which of us didn't if we had the chance.

my problem is that he tries to play it off like he's being responsible for spending money on things other than his broken window, which probably means more fruit loops. he has a completely warped sense of what being responsible even is. my dad would have made me pay for it as a lesson, but the difference in how he was raised and most everyone else in the world is clearly evident.

I'll state the obvious. You don't (if you can help it) leave thief bait in your car in obvious sight.

Mine to, because of stupidity. Normal car malfunctions, they would have covered.

Well, everyone knows that opening the door will set off a basic alarm system. Except you, apparently.

Nope. You break the window and unlock it from the inside... then open it.. It won't set off the alarm.
