The world the people behind Mayors Against Illegal Guns inhabit seems to be mighty black and white. With maybe a slight green tinge to the sky. Mark Glaze, executive director of MAIG, believes that someone should only be allowed to use a gun to defend themselves if their attacker also has a one. In his opinion, the lack of a gun indicates that the attacker “just wants to have a fistfight.” Yeah, well, tell that to the two people per day in this country who are beaten to death with their attackers’ bare hands. Or the 12 others who die every day from attacks that don’t involve firearms. In those cases, Mark Glaze would rather the victim not even have the option to defend their lives. Here’s the transcript of a conversation he had recently with noted Constitutionalist Chris Matthews via FreeBeacon.com:


MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an axe handle.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the axe handle armed or not?

MARK GLAZE: Not with a gun.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: I would consider him armed [laughter].

MARK GLAZE: I have a word for him. I grew up in Colorado where my dad was a gun dealer, and a guy who shoots somebody who has anything other than a gun when they could have done something else like talk or fight with their fists –

Attacking someone with a deadly weapon DOES NOT mean the deadly weapon is a firearm. Mayor needs to realize this.

A legally armed woman should be able to use that option if for example someone who is twice their size is trying to rape them. If I understand the issue in the OP, the mayor thinks she should not be able to do so.

There are good reasons that in law the phrase "deadly weapon" is used rather than "firearm" in laws.

He wants to remove the equalizer that a firearm is from women it sounds like. The amount of unintended consequences this law change would have leads me to believe he is both clueless to firearms and their associated laws.

If some person attacks you pull out your gun and keep shooting till they quit moving. However, for concealed carry your life has to be in danger. I would say if somone is going to rape you, grab you roughly or tries to punch you, then your life is in danger. If you are a woman you might not be able to reach a gun so maybe a knife or a taser or something else is also a good idea. Female soldiers in Seoul, Korea use to feel endangered and sometimes they would carry a bayonet.

Stabbing someone with a Tampon probably will not work. Maybe they should put pepper spray in a hairspray bottle. Hair brush with a knife inside. Hair pin as a deadly weapon.
