Cancelling an AOL account

Every time i've canceled an AOL account, once they figure out you're not falling for their crap, they sound like their mom just died.

seriously what call center can you get away with this in???? I used to work for a large cable isp and every call was monitored by your supervisor. No wonder when people would call in to cancel an account and i just said ok and processed they were shocked because they are used to @$$hats like this csr.

I had to call back twice before they would really cancel my account.

The second time, I asked for a confirmation number, the first and last name of the CSR that I was speaking to, and said that I would go as high up the ladder as I could, referencing the CSR and the confirmation number to everyone I spoke to.

Never saw another AOL charge again. And it was for my parents, so don't give me any grief!

The CSR must get some kind of bonus for every customer they retain.

I think they do. Within the last year, Elliot Spitzer went after AOL because of the extreme difficulty they gave customers who wanted to cancel accounts, of course AOL has not changed very much since that happened.

Geez that CSR sucked. That stuff is retarted. Glad I never used AOL, when we had dialup, it was through our phone company and I just set the windows dialler to take care of it.

We have 1 aol account... its the only dial up service you can get almost world wide.. they have access numbers in all the european country.. sometimes you get screw with a hotel W/O internet access...

That AOL CSR was a real tool, but I can kind of see where he's coming from. I'll bet that he's had to reinstate dozens of accounts every week because the dumbass on the other end of the phone accidently gave him the wrong account information and/or didn't realize that they had half a dozen screen names running under that account.

we're stuck on dial-up; our first dial-up ISP sucked... cut off every 5 minutes, etc.
My wife, in frustration, used an AOL free trial, just to see if it was the area phone lines, or the actual ISP.

When it came time to cancel the trial period, they made it all but impossible. What a major pita, she was on the phone forever. I can't recall correctly what we said to finally get them to cancel it and leave us alone, but I remember it was a lonnng (over 20 minutes) phone call.
