How is my saying that pot has the ability to effect someone so adversely that they become violent and my becoming so frustrated with people not reading and twisting my words that I lose control over myself for a post show that I'm contradicting myself?

There are proper ways of going about getting the laws changed. Ignoring them ...anyway isn't one of them.

Well its a good thing Rosa Parks never broke the law...right?

Rosa Parks may as well have raped and killed some of those white people on the bus while she was at it

Was she breaking the law? Or was she just refusing to be bullied by stupid white supremacists?

both actually. The Jim Crow laws were real laws....not just "suggested courses of action".

Nik, first off, there is no study showing any correlation, much less connection between pot (only) users and violence. Trust me, you don't feel violent on pot. In fact, it's exactly the opposite.

Secondly, can you not see the similarity between the calls for a ban on guns, and the war on drugs? Both are fruitless. Both end up taking away far more freedom than just the right to own a gun or do drugs. And both will create dangerous underground black markets that spread the misery to innocent people.

You'd have thought we learned our lesson with prohibition.

Look at what is already happening with the ridiculously high taxes on cigarettes.

Wow, we have a lot of liberals on this board. I am from Hawaii and I can attest to the fact it is popular. But just because other people are doing it doesn't mean you should do it. I am totally against the legalization of marijuana. Where does it stop? Why not go ahead and legalize cocaine or heroin? I mean, that doesn't hurt other people.

She did break the law.

Pot smokers are just refusing to be bullied by anti-drug nazis.

Goddamn... I've never understood the rationale behind marijuana's illegality. It does no one any great harm, it's not as bad for you as tobacco or alcohol.... all it does is waste government time and money.

*shrug*

by relaxing some of the marijuana laws we can make it more accessable for those who need it medically and free up police and prison resources to take care of more important issues.

this is what my government tells me.

the canadian govt. obviously wouldnt want to relax the laws on something if they thought that it was a danger to society, they also wouldnt allow certain people to smoke it now if they thought that it made people crazy and violent and wasnt helping them. the government wouldnt consider something like this unless they've done a whole buncha studies and examined other places where pot laws are more relaxed (uk, holland).
so obviously this isnt some crazy hippie idea that someone came up with, there has already been a lot of thought, time and money put into this idea to come out with the conclusions that it has.

I am with Nik on the drug issues, although I would like to see alcohol and tobacco products made illegal as well.

I'd like to see stupidity illegalized as well, but then where would we put everyone that thinks like you?

I'm sorry, I was mentally responding to two different posts at once, got them mixed up and put the contents of both into this. I apologize.

When I smoke ganja, I am both breaking the law, and I am refusing to be bullied by our gov telling me that I cant grow and enjoy a mostly harmless substance.

I'll be the first person to say there should be strict laws against the sale to minors (under 18), driving or operating machinery under the influence, basically any concrete case where smoking mj can and/or will hurt other people. Smoking with your friends at a party or in the safety of your home hurts noone.

It's sad that so many people want to live a dead, strung out, emotionally artificial life granted by drugs. Go read Aldus Huxley's Brave New World, figure out what the purpose of Soma is, and then tell me you still want a government that promotes such drug use.

Dont make the mistake that because someone smokes a little weed every now and then, that they are automatically 24/7 stoned and live in an aritificial reality.

But of course handing out aderal and prozac perscritpions like they are candy is perfectly ok? If anything our government is supporting the idea of a SOMA drug.

You do realise that Huxley was very big into psychedelics right? He actualy wrote another book that looked at the idea of a "happy drug" from the opposite perspective of A Brave New World

btw, nik, if you're still reading... PLEASE stop intentionally spelling it "marajuana." it's "marijuana" and you know it.
