I still can't find any decent estimates. If you have a link I'd like to read it (I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just interested in seeing some estimates).

Even assuming 20 million supporters, though, you wouldn't have a silent majority. 20m spread out over 400+ electoral districts just equals a third party that will get shut out from winning any seats in our first-past-the-post electoral system.

This is of course utterly silly nonsense.

The numbers of this type appear to have originated when the president of Freedomworks falsely claimed that ABC News had estimated the crowd size at 1 to 1.5 million people even though the ABC News estimates merely was estimates "tens of thousands" for radio and apparently later estimated possibly 60 to 70 thousand people there.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics...-size/story?id=8558055

Some sloppy blogs and a few media sources picked up this claim as an actual ABC News one, and apparently a few participants who are very poor at estimating crowd sizes came up with similar numbers. No remotely creditable source actually witnessing the rally is claiming anything of the sort, and the millions estimates can be dismissed offhand based on aerial views and the like and what isn't being filled but clearly would be with those sort of numbers.

Of course the way these numbers have been spread around and repeated uncritically in spite of the evidence to the contrary does convey how disconnected from reality some of these people are.

An of course this is obviously NOT evidence of millions.

The reporter said possibly tens of thousands. and the visuals flat out don't support the kind of numbers you're talking about which can be compared to Obama's inauguration for an idea what crowds ACTUALLY that sort of size would look like in DC.

I'll be the first to admit that I've no background in estimating crowd size, but that picture is of one static moment and shows a very large number of people. The time-lapse images from that camera might be a better indicator. The numbers I used above were indeed unsubstantiated reports from various sources, but repeated multiple times on various sites. It's hard to know what numbers to trust of dismiss. The inauguration crowd pics are indeed impressive by comparison - but I don't recall the estimates for their size.

Whatever the number actually there, it is still a small fraction of the number of people sharing similar views.

Yea, they should be more like MSNBC where nobody disagrees with Obama. That kind of left-wing brainwashing is far more dangerous than Fox News.

No your type of anti Obama rhetoric that say disagree with everythying obama says or does regardless of if it`s good or bad reeks of recism at it`s lowest. people like you are one of the main reasons the a Republican will not hold the office of POTUS for at a minimum the next 20 years.
When was the last time that the Dems held POTUS for more than 8 years?
Not within most people here lifetime

You can't spell propaganda without G-O-P.

You can't spell Democrat without t-a-c-o, which is what they are, illegal immigrant loving pansies.

The original post is nearly exact to the propaganda MSNBC was pushing last night.

And yeah, Godwin's law was invoked in the original post too, that's another massive failing. Thread should have been done with right there.

Did the GOP get rid of illegals in 16 years of complete congressional domination? They did absolutely nothing. Do you know why? Use your brain a little.. without illegals in this country, our economy would fall apart. All the GOP would have had to do was put extreme fines/criminal prosecution to businesses that hired illegals. That is it. They would never hurt businesses and fear is their game. Talk about abortion, illegals, guns, and god. Never do anything about it though : ).

It really is pathetic anyone here took that line any more seriously than a mocking of heyheybooboo's propaganda line  Use your brain a little ;)

What the hell has the country done to your education to make you presume that a desire for representative government is "anarchy"? I assure you that a desire to rid ourselves of both Republicans and Democrats, to rid ourselves of our elite ruling class, is quite far from anarchy.

I would call it renewing our representation, for which we currently have none.

Quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of both parties. Both of them are far more worried about lining their pockets and maintaining/gaining power than the are about doing what's best for the country or the people. 98% of what both parties say is about twisting current circumstances to get people to go along with what's best for the politicians best interest, not the countries. If we didn't have all the lies and distortions from both the far left and the far right, most of the people of this country would be better off. Both sides have long since lost sight of what they're supposed to be doing, and have decided that what's best for them is the same as what's best for all of us. I'd love to see a third party that would actually do what is best for the country.
