It depends on the microbe.

HIV, while quite deadly, is actually an extremely fragile virus. It can only survive in the human body. Exposed it to air, for a short period, and it's toast (let alone anything else).

Now if we are talking about blood samples, that's a little different. HIV in a large enough blood sample, outside the body, is like an astronaut in a capsule...eventually they'll run out of air...

Even on a toilet seat, it's a goner. There are too many factors, but on the whole, your 99.9% safe.

I'd be more worried about a variety of other nasty bacterium that can infect you.

The odds are far greater of you dying/being disabled in a car crash. Do you stop driving?

I don't think the OP has taken high school level biology yet. Either that or the public education system has degraded even more than I thought.

A third possibility is that he took the class but slept through it. :p

either im hearing this wrong or you sure have balls.

Absolutely. Think about it: in a city like New York, there are tens of thousands of people with AIDS or HIV. Some of them have to use laundromats. In the entire history of the HIV epidemic, not one single case has been reported from using a laundromat after an infected person. Not one. So yes, I'd do it. I'll do it tomorrow if you want. But you've got to show me the money.

Think of HIV as a bullet. It is incredibly deadly in the wrong place. But if a bullet is outside of a gun, it is harmless. When HIV is outside of a human host or fluid, it is benign. So essentially, all you're asking me is whether I'd feel comfortable touching a bullet knowing it had been inside a gun at some point. Yes I would. I'd also do for a hundred dollars, by the way...

8 out of the 9 times i have gotten aids was from public laundromats, so i'd say yes. the other time i got aids was when i drank something out of a small bottle that said "aids" on it. that one really made me mad because it was written so tiny on it.

You don't even realistically get HIV from kissing, for fuck's sake.

You know how we're reminded how fragile we really are every day? We're a lot more hardy than viruses and bacteria. They're fragile biological organisms that are easily killed with... wait for it... soap... and high temperatures.

Our skin is a remarkable barrier to outside contaminants. Sure, we have openings.. but still. It's why you don't hear about outbreaks of diseases centered around large bathrooms.

You aren't going to get any diseases from washing your laundry in a laundromat, just like you aren't going to get any diseases from using anything else anybody has ever used prior to you.

Except maybe a needle. If you find a needle in the laundromat, don't stick yourself with it.. you'll be fine.

;)

Even if he decides to jab himself w/ the needle, if he takes prophylaxis the chances are about 1/1000

The OP is clearly Bill Frist. And yes I would do it for a hundred dollars. I'd do it for free... assuming you give me the quarters to do the load of course... fine I'll go half-half with you.

I'd guess that the washing cycle would be enough to kill any viruses. Too hot, and too many chemicals - that, plus an insufficient virus concentration to be dangerous.

too hot? you probably need boiling water inorder to kill it off, and no one washes their cloths in boiling waters.

but you make some good points.

for $100, would you wash your load after a guy if you knew he had aids?
do you eat in restaurants that use real silverware, glasses and dinner plates that could've been used by an HIV positive person?

there's something more to push your paranoia button.

and if this is a parody thread, you suck.

LOL. The OPs question has to be a joke.

What the OPs' friend forgot to say was that he got AIDS at the laundromat... from a random buttsechs encounter.

Can anybody think of any more paranoid crap to tell the OP, maybe he'll wind up never leaving the house!

Don't tell him where fecal bacteria can be found...

aids and pregnancy is no joke.

why take the risk?

pppffffttt. Yeah Right, I would do it for the money to do a load. The chances are so close to zero of getting aids that you have a better chance of getting abducted by aliens while winning the lottery. (and I don't play the lottery..)
