I tried it once. To make a long story short, the fire department showed up, and there were cops blocking off both ends of my street as a direct result. (I should also say that I can't cook.)

However, despite all of the drama, it turned out to be an EXCELLENT steak.

Knew someone with a similar story. 20 pound turkey and put the oven on CLEAN. The rest is history.

it all depends. siva, what kind of cooking supplies do you have on hand?

This is the only way I cook my steak. I don't dare ruin my expensive steak on the grill. Ribeye, Beef Tenderloin, and NY Strip all come out great cooking this way.

I believe Ruth Chris chain also cook steaks this way except they use specially built oven that can reach around 1,000 F.

Broiled steaks are actually better. Juicier meat but without the fat drippings, and medium-rare steaks are more evenly cooked. Broil them after pan searing them to get it just right.

Don't bother with any sort of marinade...you could butterfly the steak and stuff it with crabmeat stuffing. Or put some blue cheese on top for the last 45 secs in the broiler. Or reduce some red wine and add sauteed mushrooms. Or make a bernaise. etc.
