I am supposed to be cooking dinner tonight, steak dinner to be exact, but I've never done anything but grill steak and my school doesn't really have anything but an oven and a range for the students to use. So um, can I cook steak in the oven, and if so what should I do to prepare it?

Do you have a skillet? Through a little butter on there, salt & pepper the steak and cook it on the stove.

Yes, use a broiling pan, or place a pan with some racks on it to maintain as little surface as possible. Slow roasting works well with marinades, but marinades mask the flavor of the steak.

I don't think it has a broiler, but I have a skillet, I will just use that

Yes, my mom does it this way all the time and I do it too when it's not nice outside to grill.

I get a baking pan and dump in a half of pack of onion soup mix, and a couple squirts of soy sauce and some water and let in marinate for a few hours on each side. Then I put it in the oven and let it bake slowly for about 2 hours (flipping over after an hour).

Some of the juiciest, tender steak you can ever have.

That being said, I'm gonna cook two New York Strip steaks on the grill in about an hour :p

Absolutely, set to broil and use a broiler pan. Oh, sprinkle a little blue cheese on it when it's cooked to your satisfaction.

Nothing nasty about it.

Rub the steak with peanut oil and salt and pepper each side. Put a cast iron skillet in the oven until the oven gets to 500deg. Then transfer to the stove top at high heat. Sear each side of the steak for 30 seconds then move back to the 500deg oven for 4 minutes on each side. Take out, cover with foil and let rest for 3 minutes. Steak heaven.

easy way:

1. use high heat on a cast iron skillet and sear all the sides of the steak.
2. throw it in the oven afterwards to cook the inside - careful not to overcook it.
3. take it out and let the steak "rest" before you cut into it.
4. profit.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. Considering that the steak is backing in the marinade (depending on how you fix it) through the entire cooking process, it has some wonderful flavor is always juicy.
