i personally never said, or intended to say, that they didn't know. the refusal to believe this would be more correct. and how much intel did we have about these camps, not all that much. the ss were very (gruesomely so)efficent in their operations. i mean, the signs that it was happening were there. the Russians found the camps before we did, obviously, and discovered it, but America was quite suprised, as was most of the world, that this was all happening right under their noses. but seriously, how would you react without any prior thought or evidence that the SS were setting up camps, work camps and death camps, to eradicate the jews and others (blacks, gypsies, homesexuals, etc.). that would be quite unfathomable, and ended up being so. band of brothers actually depicts the reality of the shock to U.S forces these were. remember, in many of the places, the red cross was admitted to appease other countries, and they fooled them.
