Can someone please explain the Taylor Swift thing to me

I read before that Madonna was short, but damn... She's short next to Taylor who's supposedly 5'10". And Taylor's short as shit when she's next to Karlie Kloss wearing flats -- no way she's only 6'1", has to be 6'3" or up.

I could not do what she does. She has a huge fan base. Like it or not, she can sing and people like her performances. I certainly do not, but I do not discredit her talent and work ethic.

I don't get it. She seems to pushed as the greatest thing ever. I just don't see it. I'm not trying to hate...hate...hate but just comparing musical ability vs reputation.

Watched the Stevie Wonder tribute at the Grammys and took note of the people they asked to perform for him. All super talented musically. I looked up her excuse for not performing. You wouldn't ask the most popular female artist currently to get on stage with Stevie Wonder? My theory she doesn't measure up. Yes she can sing but there is no depth to her voice. Its hollow. Any meaning behind her lyrics? No ability to dance/perform on stage.

I compare the collective works of a 25 year old TS vs 25 yr old Stevie Wonder vs 25 yr old Prince vs 25 year old Michael Jackson. Not even the same universe.

If you want to make a more current comparison while not the greatest fan of Adelle that girl has some serious chops. Compared to her style of music there is a soulfulness to her voice.

Everyone on that stage is far more talented then TS and I think the producers know it.

So again why is she all that?

I wouldn't want to bonk Stevie, Prince or Michael. I don't care how good their music is!

Once I learned she wrote her own music I had a lot greater respect for her. I am not a big fan but do enjoy some of her music. She has a connection to an extremely loyal fanbase. She's not going out of popularity anytime soon.

At least she writes music...

...which is more than can be said for 99% of the popular "musicians" these days.

That and she looks like a super model while doing it.

Lot's of people do not care for Sting a lot, but many do.

I always admired him for being a great musician and writing his own material.

I remember a guys son I used to work for was going to a concert years ago was going to a Sting/someone else concert years ago, I told him when he went you'll see the difference between a Musician and a Pop Star.

He came in after that weekend saying I was right on the money, and that Sting was fantastic.

I honestly have not listened to much of anything of hers, but she has the process down right it appears, and pays attention to her fan base.

Madonna was always just a fantastic stage presence, to me.

She was a ballerina in ABT in think before she became a pop star, she knows how to put a show together, and can sing in the process.

I think the Vouge thing she did for the MTV Awards was one of the best shoes I'd ever seen, even though I hated the Superbowl she did personally.

She knows how to put on a show.

She is only good enough to be Maddy's guitar player. Taylor needs more cred to be able to sing with her ()🙂

Look, she has a weak voice but in that she's no different than 95% of pop singers. Vocal talent wise she's below average and the average is pretty low.

OTH, she is very smart and knows how to market herself and how to pen songs her base will appreciate.

But, her major selling point is that she's young and pretty. No, not the most beautiful girl in the world, but those legs are epic -- and she knows it!

Most performers have a limited shelf life, even the big names with talent. Very few performers remain at the top for more than 5 years and almost none beyond 10 years.

Oh I completely believe she wrote the lyrics to

"Shake It Off"

She can be related to, thats why.

It reminds me of the audition scene in walk the line above. When Johnny Cash was about to blow his audition and ended up having to sing about something that he felt, something real. Thats a rarity today in pop and why she is popular. She writes her own songs about stuff thats personal to her. Nobody else has the confidence to do that these days.

Amazing scene from walk the line, btw.

Swift tries to communicate with her audience - basically young girls (who are easier to get to spend actual money vs DLing etc). Katy Perry and other sing throw away nonsense like "Roar" while Swift is singing about teeny emo stuff that kids define thier growing up by. I'm not a huge TS fan (especially lately with her "boom boom" rythmn phase) but she has tried to do more than just be foot tappy. She also had biz exec parents who have been shaping the kid for market (they remind me a bit of Beyonces parents but not quite as creepy with the "Destiny's Child" stuff)

That's a very subjective statement, if you were to print out a waveform of her voice and analyse it I bet it wouldn't be pretty. She sounds awful at award shows, and even with studio magic sounds very flat. I can't deny her popularity, but her voice sucks. By the bold, technically anyone can sing.

This vid annoyed me more than it should. It has nothing to do with Japanese food. She doesn't know how to eat shrimp? Didn't she grow up in south eating shrimp?

Detach the legs which will free the body shell. Then take off the body.

What an uncultured noob. Stick to mac & cheese.

I actually met her when I was in the Caymans 2 years ago, She was eating at the same place we were, sat at the table next to us. (local place not someplace fancy or well known) there were 4 or 5 people with her all similar age.

Every stereotype you can think of about dumb blonds/young people applies to the group. it was actually embarrassing sitting next to them having to hear words coming out of their mouths.

reminded me of the scene in Family Guy when Brian meets Jillian's friends

You got that James Dean day dream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time.
Cause we never go out of style
We never go out of style

Do not care for her music. Never found her that attractive, at least when she was trying to portray the good girl thing.

So no I don't get it either.
