Can minorities really get away with doing what Kramer did?

I have seem many times people here say that there is a double standard - that whites can't get away with stuff that minorities can. I say when looking at the big picture, there is no double standard. In this day, people cannot get away with stuff like this whether they are a minority or not. Whites are an easy target, of course, because of their great numbers and the power they have. When another group replaces them, they will become a bigger target. This is what I think and I could be wrong, like I am many times.

Yes, I have seen comedians make fun of whites, like the way they dance or whatever, or call them names. It can be offensive, but in a different way. What Michael Richards did was totally different and is not really comparable. We as people have to grow up.

Why do you think this is? Maybe the term double standard is not accurate. I have to work on my english.

See what has happened to blacks and minorities in America. The same has not happened to whites. People are sensitive to this sort of stuff. It makes them uncomfortable. Like I said, whites control the power in America for the most part and that is among the reasons they are a bigger target - along with their size in population. Look at things proportionally.

There's a difference between adding racism/stereotypical views into your act and directing it personally at an audience member.

What ? Calling audience members racial slurs directly, repeatedly, and with full intent ?

BTW, I didn't see the part where he got heckled during his set. Does that happen often to comedians ? I don't watch that many performances but have never seen it happen.

I don't buy that for a second. His tirade was full of anger and frustration. If any comedian did that they would be looked down upon.

I've never seen a comedian act the way he did.

Wow, we know that. If there were no problems, we would not have the civil rights marches and protests in the 50s, 60s and 70s. We would not have lynchings and bombings of blacks and others. We would not have segregation and mistreatment of blacks and minorities. There is still a lot of racism in America and it comes in many shapes and forms. Just because slavery ended does not mean that things were perfect afterwards - far from it.

Here is the problem with that, what of the member of audience had said those things to Dave Chappelle and the audience member was white. If Dave Chappelle had said something like "Whitey needs to shutup" it would have gotten a laugh and would have NEVER made the news. Even if Dave was mad and being vicious.

Am I wrong? Methinks I am not.

yes you are wrong...first of, dave chappelle would prolly make fun of the dude in an intelligent way cause he's a genius. and second, if he direct vicious comments at an individual, it would be on the news.

if u live in england yes

if i call a pakistani man a "beloved patriot" ill get the rap

if he calls me a similar name relating to my race.....nout happens

infact the gov in this country bends soo far over to cater to the minor races that i cant tell where they begin and where they end. christmas, the word is offensive to some of them, never mind thats what its always been called in english tradition lets try and abolish it to appease the minorities!

and the repayment for this kinda of insanity? driving without licenses or tax or insurance...killing a mother and her baby on the pavement when they lose control and then getting away with it.

seriously if you are a minority race.... britain is the place to be, its like a 5 star ****** hotel, where the born and bred brits are the hotel porters.

I want an answer to that.

1 - No you don't, you want people to be unable to come up with an answer to it, in order to prove some point which is not contained in the actual question.

2 - I am not responsible for slavery. Everyone is supposed to be equal now, in the civilized world at least - no one should get away with that sh1t.

That just goes to show that the answer to my question is an undeniable NO. As for not being responsible for slavery, you're also not responsible for the invention of calculus or the invention of the wheel, but you benefit from it, right?

And if everyone is supposed to be equal, how come we have so many damn amendments and laws after the original bill of rights? It just goes to show that laws are applied discriminately and might equals right (even in the civilized world). Otherwise, the Bill of Right would've been enforced from the day it came to being.

Absolutely, but I'm sick of people pointing the finger back to slavery for all the problems "African-Americans" face today. There's been 143 years for that race to pull themselves together and gain the equality they desire. While up until the past thirty or forty years has been difficult, it's been smooth sailing for the most part since, and that whole argument goes invalid.

What Michael Richards did was shocking, yes, but wrong? Perhaps. It's been said many times but if it were a white person heckling Chris Rock, in a predominantly black crowd, there would be nothing wrong with it. It's just human nature and part of the human psychology. If you were being heckled by someone "different" from you, you would immediately point out those differences in an effort counter the heckling. You can hear in the video the majority of people laughing, save for a few PC a-holes gasping. It's just further proof that Richards let slip something we've all been wanting to say.
