Yes you can with PSMF in combination with exercise but it also depends on how much body fat you have and if you're willing to eat the same thing over and over again for the entire two weeks. The less bodyfat you have, the more muscle mass you'll lose. If you have a good 10 extra pounds of body fat then there shouldn't be a problem doing it. I'm doing it right now and seem to be dropping half a pound to a pound a day. I weight myself both in the morning and at night to get a good idea if I am really dropping or not.
As for how I'm doing it, I'm not following the PSMF plan exactly how it's laid out because I need carbs to function for my daily routine. I'm also not starving myself because I'm doing it by eating Egg Whites all day long. Egg White are the best for doing this because the calorie to protein ratio is extremely good. You can eat 40 egg whites and be only at 800 calories a day. Assuming that you already know that you're suppose to be eating 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight then you should be trying to strive for around 35 Egg Whites per day. I seriously can't eat that many eggs in a single day because it makes my head spin so I'm eating around 15 per day and I'm still fully satisfied since I do combine my meals with 60 grams of carbs total per day. I get my carbs from bread since it's easy to count at 1 slice being only 50 calories. I generally eat my bread with 1 tablespoon of butter spread to keep my fat content up. I end up eating somewhere in the range of 1k calories to 1200 calories a day depending on how much butter spread i use on my bread.
As for exercise you need to do both cardio and resistance training to preserve muscle mass because the goal is to be ripped and not a skinny fat guy. I'm doing 48 mins of cardio and 10 mins of resistance exercises with things like the kettlebell and pushups. If you want to do this with free weights then you might want to get a spotter incase you run out of energy.
You also need two supplements when doing PMSF to ensure a healthy heart beat. First is potassium which can be bought over the counter but you can easily get the potassium from spinach since 1 cup of spinach is only 25 calories. The second thing you need is omega 3 fish oils. If I am missing a supplement then I'm all open ears.
As for why PSMF might be unhealthy, I do not know. I'm not starving myself and feel extremely full trying to hit 35 eggs in a day. It's just an extremely boring diet.
Edit. Link to a guy from body building forums who did PSMF and his two week results.
