As a SBC customer that has called in about 10 times over the past 3 years for connection issues, I can safely say that having a router with their services means absolutely nothing to them. After a series of questions, the Rep actually asked me what my network looked like, I told him I have a router, brand name and model number. SBC doesn't care.

they might just say, we can't help you trouble-shoot problems if you have a router, contact the router's manufacturer. Plus they'll then just blame all your connection problems on the fact that you have a router.
Correct answer. Verizon did that to me.

they will not do troubleshooting for you if you tell them you have a router that you did not buy from them.

I have DSL through Sprint and they do troubleshoot for me with a router that I did not buy from them. With one problem they even took me through my router configuration screens to get to the item that had to be changed.

i probably should've mentioned that my advice was SBC specific for the OP.

Even SBC specific advice seems to vary.

First I had it in connect on demand, max idle time 30 minutes. Then I changed to 24 hours. Then I changed it to keep alive, redial period 30 seconds. I think in that mode it never disconnects.

What router do you have ?

Linksys BEFSR41

Call Linksys and ask for help.

I had a problem with my connection just like you did with my Linksys and they helped me fix it.

DO NOT TELL THEM YOU HAVE A ROUTER. they will charge additional isp if you do. and yeah, you are probably far from them. whine to them and ask when speed will increase, then whine so more. :)

amazing the rumors that go around ;) this is true for a CABLE ISP but not SBC DSL.

then stop spreading rumors of your own.
cable companies don't care either
