So drawing appearance parallels between monkeys and people is now taboo if the person is black? Is this what you people do out in cali?

No I read the article, considered the source of the email, and came to this probable conclusion. This isn't some random photochop of Bush on the interwebz as others have pointed out. I would like to see the actual drawing though to see if it was at least funny. I don't like anywhere near Cali. Never even visited. These apples to watermelons justifications others are posting don't really hold water in this case.

Its ok to make holocaust jokes to non-jews?

I said 'about', not 'to'. It's almost like when groups of people were murdered or enslaved for centuries based upon the principle that they were subhuman, that jokes/photoshops/etc implying that same line of thought are considered in bad taste while similar jokes about groups that haven't been murdered or enslaved for being subhuman are not considered as bad.

This really isn't brain surgery, guys.

My thanks to all who reminded me what a Chimp Bush was. The bush shots were hilarious but the Obama one was lame. I think the sender should be flogged for a bad sense of humor.

I'll explain so even the apologists can understand....maybe...

Call Bush a spook, means nothing
Call Obama a spook totally different meaning.

For those of you who didn't major in English, there are a classs of words used as perjoratives for certain races of people. Do some reading and them come back here.

Personally I am outraged by the portrayal of chimps as being as stupid as Obama. Chimps have at least learned how to use tools and such. Obama being a tool doesn't mean he is a chimp.

I'm pretty sure they understand this. They're pretending they don't.

If a politician calls Obama a "******", they'll say "So is it racist to call Bush a ******?"

-Why not go the distance with your example:

President Bush is a dumb ****** (?eh)
-or-
President Obama is a dumb ****** (0_o)

Its cool tho, I called Bush a ****** too...

Edit: Damn-it beaten to the punch...

Yup, sums it up quite well I'd say.

Oh, and about those Bush pic's compared to Obama's? Apples and oranges....er, rather I meant red grapefruits and pineapples.

Well it's as racist as a person wants it to be. It depicts Obama's white mother as a chimp too, so I'm not so sure it's all that different from the Bush pictures. I wouldn't actively argue against anyone who saw it as racist because one's perceptions are what they are. I can understand how someone could infer that and don't begrudge them that position. If one is arguing the intent of the picture's creator I don't know that it's all that relevant. Whatever juvenile or possibly hateful motive it was, the details don't concern me. This much is clear: it's beyond distasteful to be coming out of any elected official's office.

Republicans make a habit of saying racist things about Obama. Interesting how it doesn't happen in reverse.

More politically correct garbage. If it's OK to make fun of one president a certain way, then it's right to make fun of another the same way. Only PC zealots have a problem with logic.

See, now that's funny! If only your other brainless compatriots could learn how to make an actual joke.

The Bush pictures are funny. The Obama pictures aren't. Bush actually looks like a chimp with the facial expressions... Obama doesn't resemble a chimp at all.

That's a matter of opinion and likely a matter of which side of the political spectrum you inhabit. I think if it was OK then, then it's OK now. If it wasn't OK then, then it's not OK now. Of course none of the people who are complaining about it now were complaining about it back then, so it's just the usual hypocrisy.

I do agree with the first sentence, because that's exactly what you would expect from partisan hacks. My team > your team.

In my case though, I don't really care for either guy. I just don't think the Obama pictures are funny because Obama isn't a dumbass. He is a smart guy whether you share his beliefs or not, but Bush came off as a genuine idiot.

I guess I don't understand what the punchline is for the Obama pictures. What is trying to be shown there? That he wasn't born in the United States? That had to be done through a chimp family portrait? The Bush pictures were obviously taking a stab at his intelligence. The Obama pic is not clearly racist and it's not clearly non-racist. It's vague, and it has potential to be taken offensively. The other big difference here is that the person sharing the Obama picture was an elected official.

Whether you (or anyone) thought the pictures were/are funny doesn't matter. Either it's OK or it's not. Which president is being mocked or disrespected doesn't have a bearing on if it's OK to do so or not.

I read the story, but hadn't seen the picture till here in this thread. This is definately gray area type stuff. Regardless of whether it is outright racism or not, this is not something that should passed around or circulated through email by a political official. I think what is truly amazing is how ignorant many republicans and teabaggers really are on this subject. They forget there is a lot of white people who like Obama and some others who will be turned off by this stuff and support him solely as way to distance themselves from behavior like this.

404 hypocrisy not found. Being compared to a monkey was never a racial insult to a white person.

I think it does matter, and I think there are degrees of being "ok" or "not ok". What if the Obama picture said "NI**ERS" and had a swastika imposed in the background? Obviously, they are both pictures painting a negative image on each president, but one is by far worse than the other.

It's not in my mind, an issue of whether or not it was OK.

Bush looks very much like a chimp. that was the point. The first pictures were comparisons. not a shitty chop putting his head on as chimp.

the Obama chimps are not meant for any kind of physical comparison. He doesn't make such expressions.

Looking at the source, a teabagger, well, it's easy enough to assume without suffering any kind of intellectual dishonesty that racism exists at some level within the intent. That's simply how it is.

If teabaggers don't want to be labeled racists, then they should probably just shut their mouths in public, b/c much of it just spews out.
