I remember when fast food jobs were for HS and college kids to make a quick buck for weekend hanging out, now its a career choice.
Who makes food during the day while all those kids are at school?

Why can't it be a career option, going from cashier to store/region manager, or jumping into corporate?

Are people who work at a fast food restaurant somehow unworthy of basic human dignity?

What's wrong with working in the service industry? Not everyone is capable or wants to be a rocket scientist stock broker programmer. And if they are going to do a job that helps make a company money, then they should be paid a wage that lets them live in the area (and we should also allow people to build more housing of all sorts to help address the supply side of the cost of living equation).

I personally wouldn't mind fast food workers getting a fat raise, I just wish they would hire smarter fast food workers. These kids ALWAYS ef up the order, ALWAYS. And if it wasn't for computerized cash registers I bet they couldn't do the math to give you correct change.
That's a management problem.. they are not teaching them how to double check orders, and/or they are not holding them accountable to do the job right.

My one fast food job was back in the mid 80's back then there were adults working there who it was their primary income and career. The idea that fast food has only ever been about kids working is a myth that needs to fucking die in a fire.

yeah, and that's the problem. When I did cashier work as a kid in HS we didn't have fancy registers, we input data manually and had to figure out change in our heads. No fancy price scanners. And I made 3 bucks an hour.

My orders are very rarely screwed up, and I customize pretty much anything I get. If I went to a fast food place that ALWAYS screwed up my order, I think I'd probably stop going there ;)

So it's kids that are always screwing up your orders, but apparently kids aren't the ones working there?

I feel like I'm the only person who never gets my order wrong at fast food places, seriously can't remember it ever happening.

Me neither. I have to repeat the order several times but once the cashier punches it in, the order is good.

Meh, I’ve definitely had some orders missing stuff, and I’ve also been the guy to not get orders just right. Not always ez, especially during rush times. My 8 years in the restaurant biz taught me a ton, it’s a big reason I don’t eat out much. But I also don’t give food service workers a hard time.

P.s. - it also taught me to make kick ass food at home ;)

Anyone know what the average labor cost is on a Big Mac?
Some quick and dirty math shows a roughly 33% labor cost increase, plus the employers piece of taxes. That's a fair chunk added to production cost. Though it seems like high volume sellers could cover that with a pretty small price increase.
That's assuming profits needs to stay the same.. Wasnt the issue that profits had skyrocketed while labor cost essentially stayed the same? So maybe take it out of the bottom line.

I could see another certain poster on here, who's prone to half reading titles before getting outraged, misreading "California raises the minimum age..." and being very very upset.

As for the asshole doing the "I remember when fast food was slave labor for children and college kids getting beer money", I remember when fast food paid well enough that you could afford to pay for college by working there.

My one fast food job was back in the mid 80's back then there were adults working there who it was their primary income and career. The idea that fast food has only ever been about kids working is a myth that needs to fucking die in a fire.

Yeah, the whole "its just a starter job for kids" was never true. I mean, do the idiots spouting that literally have no clue about the origins of most of these companies? Doubly baffling is there's some actual evidence of the "self built billionaire" by some of these, so they're basically shitting all over their often constant support of that sham as well by denigrating fast food as though its only for idiots and first time workers. Granted cognitive dissonance is rife in those people (to their complete obliviousness).

Go ef yourself. POS. And imo fast-food workers should only have hs and college kids working there. It should be a stop gap job and not a career. Flame me I don't give a shit. Its an unskilled labor job and shouldn't be a career.

I rarely have had a mistake made on my fast food order.. But we are all human and mistakes are made.. Nobody gets thru life without making them, even in fast food.

I did get forgotten at the drive thru window not long ago. Gave my ordered, paid.. waited for my food........ waited..... 15 minutes later I finally called inside, when the young man answered I asked if they forgot about me.. he was like "oh shit!". He came to the windows with my order, apologized, asked if I wanted a refund.. I just told him "no, I just have to get to work"... Been to the same establishment many times, same young man has taken care of me.. never a problem. This day, it was extremely slow and he had a brain fart.. it happens. I think he may have had a girlfriend stop by, not sure, but We've all been there at that age..Problem is, as a customer, many people think they should be perfect, never make a mistake and more times than not, an upset customer goes off on them.. We the customers are part of the problem, and one reason they deserve better pay than they get.

So much projection and insecurity in your post.

But I guess thanks for telling us who you really are.
