I recall awhile back Connecticut wanted to provide illegals with state health-insurance free of charge! (this was pre-Obamacare)

Its like they somehow missed that these people are here illegally.

I live in California and this has been in the works for years and I oppose it very much. If I sneak into Canada illegally, do you think they will give me a legal drivers license? It makes no sense at all. It's gotten so ridiculous here in California that the LAPD won't impound the car of someone caught driving if they are illegal and don't have a driver's license but of course if you are a citizen and have no license, say bye bye to your car. It will literally make the issue worse since more will illegally come into our country because of things like this. We actively encourage them to come over.

Ensuring the D voting block.

Except that this also happens in Red states too...

I'm also against the practice of giving illegal immigrants ANYTHING, BUT...look at it this way, the license they are issued looks SLIGHTLY different than the one issued to legal residents and citizens...should make it easier to round them up later...:hmm:

And, its not like not having a license is stopping them from driving around anyway, at least now you know they were at least able to pass the drivers test.

They keep rewarding these people for breaking the law. What happens? Its pretty simple, they tell members of their family back in Mexico etc, that just get here no matter what. NOTHING will happen to you, you can get a job, free medical and now even a drivers license. The people in charge of doing these things need to be shot.

It says that they still need to show proof of residence in order to get one.

Funny. As an adult US citizen, just try getting a state driver's license post 9/11 with no other photo ID. I know a fellow in Colorado who lived off the grid, so to speak, and needed a photo ID to do some traveling by air. No go. He ended up having to schedule a special DMV hearing in Denver where his 84 year old mother testified that he was who he said he was. The hearing officer still gave him a hard time.

I'm in the Ronald Reagan camp of supporting the State's Rights to exercise the powers not granted to the Federal government. California has no control over immigration status whatsoever. They are however free to govern how it's residents are licensed for motor vehicle use.

It's clear all of you Big Government liberal pussies are drooling over the thought of Uncle Sam stepping in and micromanaging each one of the 50 states.

Like your Red states trying to sue my state for legalizing pot at the state level?

Conservatives and Liberals are both complete jokes, don't try to get on your high horse, it's only when it serves you that you want state rights.

Why should ANYONE need such proof? Auto insurance is issued on vehicles, not people. I'm sure that the vehicle in which they take their driving test must have insurance.

Tell that to California. And yes, the video in the article said that you do need proof of insurance.

So you can't get a license unless you own a vehicle? Mmmm.... I don't think so. To get that license you'll need to take both the written exam and the driving test. I'm sure the insurance mentioned is for the vehicle in which you take the test, which could be owned by anyone.
