Your explanation of how it works is right, but the conclusion is not - you correctly explained why the majority party's gerrymandering causes 'moderates' of that party to get elected in narrower races, but as yousaid, the minority party has as many of its voters crammed together as possible, which results in the hardcore candidates far from the center to get elected tfrom that party. I.e., relatively moderate Dems and relatively extreme Republicans.
But we see increasing ideological extremity among both parties.
