buying an AR

OK I'm planning to buy an AR and is planning to spend up to 2K to buy one that comes fully assembled. I'm not interested in buying parts and assemble them myself to save money or whatever (this money was given enough to buy an AR up to that amount so I want to spend as much of it as I can. I'm not ALLOWED to buy any accessories with that cash. Weird rule I know but I get to have an AR for free so who cares🙂 )

I'm comfortable with handguns but never owned an AR before so was thinking to pick this up:

any suggestions on a more reliable, easier to operate and maintain than that?

AR - Anal Reamer?

I would buy a high quality one. Don't want any burrs or shoddy construction on one of those.

I've had good luck with "The Fistinator". It's really help up well after repeated use.
the what? I googled it but couldnt find anything relevant. Found a picture of a naked old man sitting on the toilet but didn't that was what you meant 😵

Academy sports and outdoors has 2 or 3 models of AR-15s under $1,000.

Bushermaster - around $900
S&W M&P - around $950

And academy has the sig, but its around the $1,100 or $1,200 mark.

Get yourself a bushmaster with a flattop, put an eotech scope on it, and be happy.

If you've got $2k to spend I would go with a LMT, Colt, or Rock River.

What do you get with that extra $1,000? Do you really think you get an extra $1,000 worth of quality?

As for colt - boycott all colt products. several years ago colt stopped selling ar-15 rifles to the general public. Colt lifted that ban maybe a year ago?

If colt does not want the public buying their firearms, we should grant them their wish.

thx guys, I'll swing by the local Academy after work today and probably will pick up the Sig. Time to start researching more on that gun I guess. I read some online reviews, some people like it, some prefer something else but no one really hates it so it sounds like a safe bet.

Uh, it sounds like Colt does want the public buying their firearms again.

I own a couple Colt ARs and they're great rifles. Really hard to tell the difference between them and lower priced rifles though. But I'm a brand whore in all things.

While you're at academy, check out the 223 monarch ammo. The academy in port arthur texas has it on sale for $4.99 for a box of 20. Regular price is $5.99. These are the small boxes that are about 2 inches square.

I bought 6 boxes last weekend.

Too bad, they should have thought about that before they snubbed their noses at the American public.

I had a pre-ban colt, and I could not tell any real difference between the colt and my bushmaster.

If you're looking for the "best value in an AR" it's not in a $2000 gun. If you're looking for "the best AR for $2000 or less" it's not going to be a $1000 gun.

They are currently selling to the public - they currently want the public to buy their firearms 😛

What is the reliability and accuracy difference between a $900 bushmaster and a $2,000 colt?

The Texas Department of Public Safety picked Bushmaster for their AR-15, it must have been for a reason.

No, I still say boycott all colt products.

I would go with a daniel defense personally. I technically have one (and trying to sell it) but never fired it.

Excellent post.

Best value would probably entail buying a good upper then building on it. A one time purchase with all the bells and whistles rolled into it?

Another vote for the ACR, or the Ruger SR-556 which is a lot of value too. Guess he should have mentioned if he wants piston or to stay with DI.

The Texas DPS also picked the .357 sig for their sidearm, it must have been for a reason. 😀

Do you still boycott S&W? Because they hopped on Clinton's gun control plan back in the day.

You're completely missing the point, you need to re-read the OP at least 5 more times because you STILL aren't getting it.

The guy has $2000 to blow on a single gun, no accessories. He doesn't have 2k that he wants to use for an AR... he can buy one AR for up to $2k. Why would you throw away $1000 worth of gun just because you think it's a better buy? He's not saving money, he's just getting less gun for no reason. It may not be worth the money but it's not his money so who gives a shit?
