I said this in a previous EBT/Welfare post.

Food stamps should be handled like WIC (Women with Infant Children). WIC allows you to only buy what is on the list of supported products.

So every month they get 2-jars of peanut butter, 4-loaves of bread or tortillas, 2lbs of cheese, 4-gallons of milk, 6-boxes of cereal and so on and so forth.

Next time you go to the grocery store you will see WIC labels next to certain products, which means it is eligible. So Chex or Cheerios is OK, Lucky Charms & Froot Loops are not OK. WIC was set up with nutritional guidelines to keep children under 3 & their mom's healthy..

FoodStamps should be done the exact same way - You should not be allowed to buy Rib Eye steaks, you should be allowed to buy ground beef or chuck roast. And you should be given a set amount for your family based on the number of people in the household receiving Food Stamps.

So - obesity comes down, our farmers sell more fresh fruit, veggies, and meat and far less processed foods. Design this system based on ethnicity as well - so a white person from Iowa gets the #3 listing of monthly food while a Latino family from El Paso gets a listing of food allowed from list #7. This would take regional/religious/dietary/ethnic considerations into play and make reasonable accommodations.

And why not throw in a box or two of brownie mix per month, or 2 1/2 G's of ice cream. I'm not here to punish people for being poor but to motivate them to get off Food Stamps.

Its far from a perfect system but much better than the one we have now.
Makes sense, but why not just make all the allotments accessible to everyone rather than feeding people by skin color or ethnicity?

I'm very disappoint at the number of people who do NOT have a problem with using public benefits, aka my life is damn near in ruins and I'm close to dying and/or kids starving to death, on a fucking 32" television.5% of stuff on television is educational and .0000000000000000000000000001% of children ever watch it. The rest is phineas and ferb and good luck charlie. 99.18% of American children (fact!) watch too much of it.
Sure you don't expect this woman's children to play Grand Theft Auto on a CRT? :D

The biggest thing I took from the OP's story was the car keys; sounds to me like this woman is a crook. I can see a situation where if a woman scrimps and sacrifices and saves her our money to buy her kids some they've never had - an inexpensive television, like all their friends have - I'd react more like Lemon Law. I suspect (though I cannot know) this woman is a more typical sort of leech with a live-in boy friend to provide her automobiles, partying and beer. If I had to bet money I'd bet there's an XBox 360 connected to that TV as we speak. Either way, Doppel is right about educational programs; there are waaay better educational purchases than a television.

Liberals apparently have trouble understanding the difference between welfare and insurance.

We vote policies and pay our taxes in the hope that we will take care of the lesser to do around us. We are mature and understand that some people will always abuse the system and that we should focus on eliminating the abuse and not demonizing people who use assistance.

I sell electronics for a store (perfect for my experience and knowledge while being in school). Last night a woman with 2 kids paid for a 32" HDTV with a food stamps card that does cash and food stamps from the state. She had me check the balances of the card and saw that there was $600 on the food stamps portion and $270 on the cash portion. This woman had *3* car keys (w/ fobs) on her key-ring to different cars and CLEARLY didn't her food stamps card. My wife and I share 1!

I hate knowing that my taxes go towards shit like this. Fuck her.

That's crazy.

I don't demonize people for using public assistance. I demonize people for making choices that anyone with an ounce of sense knows will lead them needing public assistance.

I suggest anyone outraged about this do something. Quit your job and join the ranks of those on public assistance. There is a five year limit on most benefits, if you can qualify.
You can't have anything in a bank account, your car can't be late model, etc...
Let me know how it works out for you, enjoy your free tv...

What are you talking about? People gaming the system already know not to have their car registered to them. They don't even own a car. It's in their grandma or auntie or whoevers name. You post those things like the people gaming haven't figured out every way around them. They're meaningless. The total lack of conviction in the fraud inspectors, coupled with the small size to benefits population of them, ensures that getting caught is few and far between.

You know these people aren't allowed to save even 1 penny, they are required to spend everything each month. It is terrible. They are never able to save for any type of trip or vacation.

IIRC, there was an earlier account of EBT cards being used far from home in vacation resort areas. Even in Hawaii.

More ignorance. If someone is on WELFARE then they should not be able to go on a vacation. The taxpayer doesn't pay for this, many taxpayers aren't even able to afford a vacation where is the money for them:confused:

Like I said, you can do it too. Just quit your job and the free Obamaphone is yours along with free big screen tvs. Give your car to your brother and get benefits, go ahead and risk that prison sentence. It's all free. Free steaks and computers.

No one on government aid is using that money for any type of vacation, they aren't able to. Someone else must have paid for them to go.

Who are you trying to fool?

You demonize women, not people.

In your bizarro world women are the only variables responsible for a baby.

You could trot out all sorts of data about EBT and the other assistance programs being very effective and mostly fraud free, but these yahoos would keep on believing their anecdotal stories represent the overall data sample.

But they can't show you the money so were stuck with stories like the OP's.

You fucking idiot!!! It isn't money to save, or for a god damn vacation, it is tax payer money to keep them from dying by feeding them, and helping to pay their bills.

Dumbshit progressive halfwits like you are the reason this country is circling the drain. I seriously hope you are sterile and can never reproduce.

Isnt it ironic how people like xJohnx bemoan the loss of freedom that comes from being dependant on the government yet advocate very little freedom for those that are?

Dependence on government isn't something to be proud of.

Their free ticket should come with some restrictions. I mean, it is free after all. It's not like they have to pay for it or work for it in any way.

If the government's giving away cruises, I sure as shit want mine.

Why would I do that? I actually like working, and make more than I would sitting on welfare (also not a single/"single" mom, so take a hit there anyways). But for those that can live the lifestyle, it's a great option! Aren't you glad you're paying for their TV? How awesome does that make you feel that you bought them some Pepsi and Cheetos? The best part? You paid even more than if you'd just out and bought them it yourself with your own cash! Ain't that a trip?! Keep payin up sucka...

What the hell are you babbling about? You think you know me or something? Bet you can't back up that bullshit. Please point out where I have bemoaned the loss of freedom that comes with being dependent on the government.

Speaking of taxes and tax payers, I find it unacceptable and offensive for me to give tax money to parents just because they chose to have a kid. If someone wants to have a child, fine. I just do not want to pay for that thru taxes on a yearly basis to that parent.
And most every single parent or parents of a child, every one have used that tax windfall to NOT assist the child, but rather to buy more crap. Video games, tv's, cell phones, iJunk, lots of electronic toys. Explain that if you can?
If the tax system is rigged to allow a kid to become a tax deduction, then any refund for that deduction should be given in the form of credits towards future college or some other type of education/training of the child. NO CASH PAYMENT!!!
Then, just maybe we'd have these children growing up educated and part of the work force, instead of continuing the legacy of the dead beat parent.

So for me it is just as offending to buy a tv with food stamps as it is for any parent to get money back simply because they chose to have children.

According to liberals, having a child is 100% a woman's choice. Sorry for following that line of reasoning to its inevitable conclusion.

It isn't a "food stamp card" it is an EBT card, EBT include cash assistance or welfare money. This is faux outrage as these people must be allowed to spend their money as they wish.

:D

'nuff said. LULZ. You must be enjoying sucking the government teet to defend it with those 2 words alone. You should really fix those 2 words in your post ;)

THIS. But the problem is that it ISN'T just something to not be proud of. It is something you should feel ASHAMED of. Why? Because you have 0 reason to get off of it unless you feel ashamed. There is no repercussions, no remorse, no shame in sucking off of other people's work. Maybe I'm alone here, I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it - desperate times call for desperate measures of course. I'm just saying that you should be encouraged to get off of it. Apparently that part of the american dream of being able to make accomplishments for yourself is off the books now o_O

I am coming up on layoffs, and I am frantically applying out the asshole. We have a roommate at home that took her layoff as "Well, I have at least 6 months of unemployment"

i see nothing wrong with welfare at all..

not everyone is created with equal mental power/capacity...

since we are, and we understand this, it makes it our responsibility to do everything that needs to be done to allkow these people and the children a fulfilling life.. they weren't born into a prison, we are free, human, beings.. being mad that a few bad apples scam the system and taking our anger out on everyone who collects assistance.. makes us the same as those parents who refuse to take care of their children.

if i had the choice to live a poor life for the rest of my life so that some other people can do the same... or, i could magically snap my fingers and suddenly there was no such thing as welfare.. and i could be as rich as i wanted... i'd take the poor life.. what good is it to be happy when others can't? at least i can enjoy myself and live with my consious knowing that just maybe some of the tax dollars i paid keeps little suzy warm at night, and her deadbeat father too...
