or give vouchers/cards that can only be used for certain things that are required for living.

TV's are not required.

Again the EXACT same thing can be said about people who are disabled, who I have already pointed out many of the people on this program are disabled.

I sell electronics for a store (perfect for my experience and knowledge while being in school). Last night a woman with 2 kids paid for a 32" HDTV with a food stamps card that does cash and food stamps from the state. She had me check the balances of the card and saw that there was $600 on the food stamps portion and $270 on the cash portion. This woman had *3* car keys (w/ fobs) on her key-ring to different cars and CLEARLY didn't her food stamps card. My wife and I share 1!

I hate knowing that my taxes go towards shit like this. Fuck her.

Why didnt you refuse her service?

I said this in a previous EBT/Welfare post.

Food stamps should be handled like WIC (Women with Infant Children). WIC allows you to only buy what is on the list of supported products.

So every month they get 2-jars of peanut butter, 4-loaves of bread or tortillas, 2lbs of cheese, 4-gallons of milk, 6-boxes of cereal and so on and so forth.

Next time you go to the grocery store you will see WIC labels next to certain products, which means it is eligible. So Chex or Cheerios is OK, Lucky Charms & Froot Loops are not OK. WIC was set up with nutritional guidelines to keep children under 3 & their mom's healthy..

FoodStamps should be done the exact same way - You should not be allowed to buy Rib Eye steaks, you should be allowed to buy ground beef or chuck roast. And you should be given a set amount for your family based on the number of people in the household receiving Food Stamps.

So - obesity comes down, our farmers sell more fresh fruit, veggies, and meat and far less processed foods. Design this system based on ethnicity as well - so a white person from Iowa gets the #3 listing of monthly food while a Latino family from El Paso gets a listing of food allowed from list #7. This would take regional/religious/dietary/ethnic considerations into play and make reasonable accommodations.

And why not throw in a box or two of brownie mix per month, or 2 1/2 G's of ice cream. I'm not here to punish people for being poor but to motivate them to get off Food Stamps.

Its far from a perfect system but much better than the one we have now.

I'm the OP, and I think absolutely not. Are you high?

Nope.

The concern is about the current children of parents who are incapable of taking care of them.

Where is the kid better off:

1) A place where the adults are more concerned with the color of the rims on their Escalade and how many flatscreen TVs they have, or

2) A place where their needs are met, tutors provided, food given, and warm beds maintained?

I mean, seriously. We aren't talking about parents who can't take care of their kids...we're talking about parents who WON'T take care of their kids.

Free lunches in schools shouldn't be provided. We already provide free lunches. The issue is the same. The parents refuse to do it, despite being given the tools to make it work.

Kids are not always better off with their parents. By and large, most kids are probably better off WITHOUT their parents.

This isn't food stamps or the SNAP program. It is cash assistance to be used for anything they wish.

If you are claiming the woman used a food stamp card to pay for a tv you are either working for an illegal retailer or are completely mistaken.

If you pm with the name of the store I will see to it they get investigated.

As much as I hate these types. I would never turn them in . We have gooberment workers who are suppose to cover this kinda thing .

I just switched to medicare B as my wifes insurance was 400 extra a month with me on coverage , To go to medicare b cost right around a $100 dollars and the supplement another 20. We gained$280 spending income. The part I didn't like was the SS in this town had a secruity guard . Now thats waste bigtime. Maybe not in Chicago or NYC but here its a standing joke and none like it

These people have little to no other income and I said some of them are disabled as well.

No one is getting a free ride, those who are able body are required to attend courses on finding a job, and required to actively look for employment.

Maybe where you live, but here women just need to get pregnant and have kids. Repeat every generation.

BULLSHIT!

If you are so poor that you need to come to the tax payer for "assistance" then you must spend the free money the tax payer gives you on things you need to live. You progressives are sick in the head, and dead wrong if you think things like TV, and computers are considered "necessities".

You do understand that many of these are Bi polar correct . No one who claims to be bi polar belongs on disability. lack of self control doesn't get you on disability it should get you a jail cell .

I'm very disappoint at the number of people who do NOT have a problem with using public benefits, aka my life is damn near in ruins and I'm close to dying and/or kids starving to death, on a fucking 32" television.
Would you deny their children the ability to watch television?
5% of stuff on television is educational and .0000000000000000000000000001% of children ever watch it. The rest is phineas and ferb and good luck charlie. 99.18% of American children (fact!) watch too much of it.

The shows you mention are on cable.

Hopefully cable tv hasn't become a "right" too.

These aren't people dying, these are people who need aid. No different than people who are disabled and on aid.

Welfare only gives an incentive to people to not work, why work when the government will give me money. As well most of the things that are bought are wasteful, a tv isn't a right or a cellphone.

If you think these should be covered then pay for it yourself

A television is not "aid". It is a luxury good. A patent non-essential.

Well said, People can live without a TV, most of the stuff that comes on is crap anyway. There is no justification for someone on welfare being able to get a TV. Welfare should be ended and we would save the taxpayer a lot of money and the people who support welfare would be able to put their money to donating to charities if they actually believe in this. The problem is there are people who support the welfare program but they want other people to pay for welfare.

You have not noticed faux outrage, knee-jerk reaction and OPs posting mistaken(IT COULD HAPPEN!) information is the norm here?

What good comes of giving them cash that they can use for whatever they wish?

Seems like this is another failed system that is just looking to be abused, and unsurprisingly people are abusing it.

This x10000

They need to crack down on aid being used for such luxuries as TVs. And to be quite frank this kind of nonsense is why I'm so much against government-run welfare to begin with. Government taxes us and gives out the money willy-nilly to both the needy and the leaches alike, and little is done to curb fraud.

If you're on welfare you should not be buying luxury items with our tax dollars. a TV is not a necessity. Beer is not a necessity. Game consoles are not necessities. Smart phones are not necessities. Etc etc etc
