I'd just like to correct the overlooked mistake:

By the end of January 2011 the following will be true:

- The Democrats will control the Executive branch
- The Democrats will have a small majority in the Senate
- The Republicans will have control of the House

Until January, the following is true:

- The Democrats control the Executive branch
- The Democrats have a majority in the Senate
- The Democrats have control of the House

So now the democrats have to explain to their supporters why they did not vote for the extension of existing tax rates??? So if you are a "Rich Guy" do you send the democrats your donations or the guys that voted for extending the Bush Tax Policy?

Depends if the rich guys are ignorant, short-sighted and greedy, or understand both the moral and economic benefits to not getting far more than their 'fair share' of wealth.

If you were a 'rich guy', you have made clear which type you would be.

Luckily, many rich guys are better.

By the end of January 2011 the following will be true:

- The Democrats will control the Executive branch
- The Republicans will have control of the Senate (due to Filibuster)
- The Republicans will have control of the House

Until January, the following is true:

- The Democrats control the Executive branch
- The Republicans have control of the Senate (due to Filibuster)
- The Democrats have control of the House

This would be more correct.

And to the voter in two years what they will see is
[qutoe]- The Democrats will control the Executive branch
[/quote] which has tried to create the impression that they are the one that runs the country

And they will be reminded on the statement by Pelosi, Reid and Obama on Day 0 - paraphrased
We do not need the Republicans to impliment our ideas

The Dems have gotten themselves between a rock and a hard place.
Craig's excuses for them are valid - yet the American public will not see it that way.

Democrats should be on TV 24/7, demanding that Republicans explain why they're supporting a tax hike on the vast majority of Americans. Make Republicans say what they really care about is tax cuts for millionaires, and they're willing to jack up YOUR taxes if they don't get their way. Except Democrats have never been good at that argument, and it doesn't look like they are going to start now.

I watch a lot of cable news. I think everyone that wants to listen has heard the discussion you call for at least a zillion times.

If it hasn't sunk in yet, it probably never will (at least until rate hikes actually kick-in and people find their paychecks hit with higher withholding).

lol.. the senate repubs in jan will have the same problem as the senate dems now.

they need 60 votes. the dems have 59 votes now and still have problems getting bills passed.

you think the repubs in jan w/a slimmer majority will do BETTER?

The Repubs will NOT have a slim majority in the Senate come January, the Dems will.

But the Repubs may use the reconcilliation process to get a tax bill through come January. They'll just need a few Dems to defect.

For some reason, the Dems seem unwilling to use the reconcillation process for tax law.

They say it's all about the top 1%...what a fucking lie. This is about grabbing as much money as possible from small business and the upper middle class.

Let see 316,000 tax returns with income over $1million divided by 160,000,000 total tax returns = .001975 of the entities' returns. With keeping the tax cuts for those below $1million, it seems pretty clear what this is about. Really how many 'small businesses' do you know that are clearing $1million per year?

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/06/obama.taxes.debates/index.html?hpt=C1

President Barack Obama on Monday announced a deal with Republican leaders that would extend Bush-era tax cuts for two years and unemployment benefits for 13 months while also lowering the payroll tax by two percentage points for a year.

The new republican house doesn't start until January, the dems have huge majority in house, almost 3/5ths majority in senate and the white house. Tea bagging republicans can't do much of anything until the new congress starts in January.

Or are we back to blaming republicans for what the democrat controlled (with huge majorities) executive and legislative branches are passing?

Republicans pushed for what they promised, and got - lower taxes and not actually raise taxes in an ailing economy. Democrats pushed for what they want (higher taxes, more spending via UI).

I agree with a $1mm threshold...but Dems and the WH wanted a threshold of $200k to $250k which would clearly cut into many small businesses as well as the upper middle class. Do you have a link to the information you provided? I'm interested to see what percentage falls into the $200k to $1mm range.
