LOL - talk about the kettle calling the pot black...

Think again noob. Am I calling them neanderthals because I disagree with their views? Or am I calling a spade a spade?

Everyone is free to voice their view in this country.

The Dixie Chicks expressed their anti-war view very vocally using their popularity.

The general public expressed their pro-war view by using their wallets.

You cannot blame the general public for boycotting the Dixie chicks. It was their choice to do so, just as it was the Dixie Chicks choice to express their anti-war view.

Just curious about this. For all of you who think that the public is wrong to exercise their consumer freedom and boycott the Dixie Chics, would you be so violently against a boycott of an indie/emo band that came out in favour of Bush and the war?

The thing to remember is that USUSALLY when these celebs open there mouth to voice there opinion they are trying to sway other to their side of the arguement. Now the general public understands that the only reason that people care what the dixie chick think is becuase they sell millions of records so IF they don't perhaps no one will care what they think.

I look at this in the same light as Bill Maher's assine comments after 9/11. Companies pulled the money from the show and he claimed they were killing his freedom of speech. In fact they were not stoping him from talking they just didn't want to pay the tab for the microphone. This is what the public has done with the dixie chicks. They don't want to fund the speech, nothing more nothing less.

A rather moderate post. Is this a first? ;)

People, of course, feel like the worst in the world, so naturally when Republican men whose dominant position in society is under threat, and really anybody else who gets their jollies vicariously from being an AMERICAN, immediately go on the attack when anybody, but expecially women who 'are supposed to be inferior' contradict and slime their phony source of respect.
thats your explaintion for why republicans, me, boycott the DC and that is insult on my intelligence and on my morals.
I know men and women are different, men are better than women at some things and women are better than men than men at other things. Men and women are not the same but each genders' advantages/disadvantages make them equal. That's my belief on male/female differences and you imply that i feel more likely to boycott the DC because they are female--that is a huge insult to me.

LOL. :D The people who criticize these girls along with the others are wrong. This war was waged on the slimmest margin of right. By a slim margin most of the country didn't support the war at the beginning. The world opposed it very loudly I might add. So for some of the people to speak against it and be criticized or boycotted for their political views on this which was really nip and tuck is ridiculous. This war was and still is in the gray area of right. I supported the war, but not at this time. I felt we needed more evidence first, which is turning out to be pretty scarce.

You're bashing those who hold a view/philosophy you disagree with. Whether you can see that or not, I don't give a damn. Either way, the irony's hilarious.

You still don't get it do you? It is not their opinion i disgree with. Its not an opinion at all. It is how they react to those that disagree with them. Your circular pseudo logic and attempts to spin this into something it is not is quite transparent and futile. You are fooling no one.

Actually, John Rocker is not a bad guy; he just can't keep his mouth shut. I used to work with his girlfriend(stunningly hot) and she said he regreted what he said, but also those things were supposed to be off the record.

"They shouldn't have their feelings hurt just because some people don't want to buy their records when they speak out. You know, freedom is a two-way street." - Bush
Right on. Do you think Bush had his feelings hurt because more people voted for Gore than him? Hehehe of course he still ended up with the big prize.

Thanks Moonbeam

You are welcome Cockgobbler

it's rather stupid to say something that will alienate your core audience.
True. They should have known that their core audience is prone to Knee Jerk reactions and Lemming/Flock like behaviour

Riiight, even though Bush has a 65%+ popularity rating, huh? Even though 70+% of the population supported the war effort, right?

And the Chicks aren't the only entertainment dipsticks getting hit in the pocketbook for voicing unpopular opinions. Why else would Babs, Sarandon, Madonna, Robbins and Baldwin (to name a few) be whining so much?
I supported our actions in Iraq and I'm not boycotting anybody because of their political views. I don't buy DC's records because I think their music sucks. Frankly I think the asshole President of the BHOF should have his head served up on a platter for politicizing the BHOF by canceling the Bull Durham event because he disagree'd with Robbins and Sarandon's view on this war.

I bet out of the 70% who favored our actions in Iraq only a small percentage would be muddle minded enough to boycott anybody for their political views. Hey this is America and even though Knee Jerk reactions are a popular form of expressing ones ignorance it's usually a backstabbing country like France that feels the Bubba's wraith.

Do you not know that the Hollywood liberals have been blacklisting Conservatives for years? Everything is a two way street. I cheered when the BHOF told Robbins and Sarandon to eat a d!ck. I was overjoyed. Sometimes people get a taste of their own medicine.

Perhaps you are an exception, BJelly, but your party doesn't impress the majority of women. No need to feel insulted. Many of my friends and family are Republican. :D You should know too that many important potential insights one can have of people are not ones they themselves recognize and will even deny. That's why it takes insight. Everybody sees the obvious.

Ok, let me explain this slowly. Some people hold the opinion that it is fine to bash others if they have differing viewpoints. It is your opinion that this is wrong. Hence, you disagree with their opinion.

Because you disagree with their opinion, you called them "neanderthals"... obviously a derogatory term. Therefore, you yourself are bashing people for the opinion they hold.

I don't agree with Robbins and Sarandon's view regarding the war but I really don't like some Right Wing Fscktard politicizing the Baseball Hall of Fame. IMO doing so makes him as bad if not worse than the Liberal Fscktards.

I guess their move was quite blunt, to say the least.
I am sure, though, they share the same views with many thousands in Texas.
IF they had said something like 'We are ashamed to be American', that would have been a serious issue.

The Dixie Chicks were famous for their music, not their political views.
So, those who act by boycotting their music - which they are free to do! - merely display a not so minor amount of stupidity and ignorance.
I bet some would have sworn by their music, and now they shun them, because they don't like the DC's stance.
I believe some are clearly hurt for not liking Bush; "Love me! Love my president"* or something along those lines.
It seems that Bush is as close to sanctity as Jesus would be.

On the other hand, it could be said that the DC are partially responsible for their own fate; by writing mostly for uneducated rednecks, there is nothing to be gained by not loving His Holy Exellence Bush (he promised tax cuts!!!).

Maybe, this could be a great opportunity to start an international career? Erm.. for the Dixie Chicks, not Bush! :D

*as seen on a sticker but reading "Love me! Love my dog!" instead.

If you guys think that the broadcasters have less influence on the general public's opinion than the Dixie Chicks over their fans, then you need to wake up!
