Right on. Do you think Bush had his feelings hurt because more people voted for Gore than him? Hehehe of course he still ended up with the big prize.

Thanks Moonbeam

You are welcome Cockgobbler

it's rather stupid to say something that will alienate your core audience.
True. They should have known that their core audience is prone to Knee Jerk reactions and Lemming/Flock like behaviour

Riiight, even though Bush has a 65%+ popularity rating, huh? Even though 70+% of the population supported the war effort, right?

And the Chicks aren't the only entertainment dipsticks getting hit in the pocketbook for voicing unpopular opinions. Why else would Babs, Sarandon, Madonna, Robbins and Baldwin (to name a few) be whining so much?
I supported our actions in Iraq and I'm not boycotting anybody because of their political views. I don't buy DC's records because I think their music sucks. Frankly I think the asshole President of the BHOF should have his head served up on a platter for politicizing the BHOF by cnanceling the Bull Durham event because he disagree'd with Robbins and Sarandon's view on this war.

I bet out of the 70% who favored our actions in Iraq only a small percentage would be muddle minded enough to boycott anybody for their political views. He this is America and even though Knee jerk Reacti9ons are a popular form of expressing ones ignorance it's usually a backstabbing country like France that feels the Bubba's wraith.

So now freedom of speech is good, but freedom of association is bad?

Red, you can't have it both ways. Why should anyone continue to support a person or group who has offended them? To appease YOUR world view?

Yes if you go against popular opinion you can often loose popularity, but this is something minor and I wouldnt be surprised if they were able to bounce back from this quickly enough (if they stick with it).

I think the one member's initial speaking-out could have been much more "PC" and I'm not really trying to argue good/bad out of this, but it's still interesting to hear about and sad to see how ignorant and stupid people are en-masse

Why is it "stupid and ignorant" to stop associating with someone who has offended you and insulted your president during a time of war?

Are you saying there should be no social consequence if you say something stupid, tasteless, or offensive?
Oh of course not, there will always be social consequence if you say anything.

What I meant about the "stupid/ignorant" part was that if you say anything people will constantly flock every direction. Just look at all the actors or radio broadcasters who are/were total jack@sses and people flock to them, they they stop being jack@sses and people stop paying attention to them.

Please explain, in detail, just how refusing to associate with someone who has offended you is "ignorant."

neo-nazis speak their mind and you have noproblem attacking them for what they say. And during times of war when celeberties, who profit because they are American and American's purchase their products, say sh!t about America and the president the people have a right to give them sh!t.

Here's an example: I own a store and you come in, i give you the finger. Now are you going to come back into my store? No--why? because it's your right to purchase from who you want to and it is my right to give you the finger. Thus "servers em right."

Actually being offended enough by their statements to call for/ follow a boycott is what I find ignorant.

i quess the civil rights movement was very ignorante than? blacks boycotted the whites because they were being treated like sh!t, so when the DC talk sh!t about america, americans have to right to boycott. Your saying we should be forced to buy their records when they insult us? nice idea fuhrer.

What's Bush doing even speaking out on this kind of stuff? Isn't the President supposed to be "above" all of this?

Comrade Big Jelly, show just one instance where I said people should be forced to buy anything? Personally I think their music sucks. When I saw them at the grammy's I couldn't believe that such a crappy group could get nominated for a Grammy (until an equally crappy John Mayer actually won one)

I find it funny the chicks were made that people were made that they used their freedom of speech. It is also peoples rights not to like a band b/c of their belief system.

Is it right to not like R. Kelly b/c he is a child molester? Yes
Is it right to not like a band b/c they use their freedom of speech to promote white power? Yes

They shouldn't have their feelings hurt if I say their music sucks either. Because it's only my opinion, so what's the big deal?

My favorite female vocalist is Liz Fraser. Thing is, if she said something I disagreed with, I would just say I disagree and leave it at that. I would still think her music is great. Politics has little to do with music, so what does it matter what some musician thinks?

I think Dixie chicks fans are retarded for:

1. Listening to that awful music to begin with, but most importantly:
2. Changing their opinion of their favorite musician because of a political statement.

Why can't they just say, hey, I disagree with that but I still like the music? What's one got to do with the other? People are too damn confrontational. Always trying to strike back, fight all the time, even over silly things that don't matter.

Newsflash people: You don't need to bash everyone who disagrees with your views. Friggin neanderthals.

I do not agree with what the Ditzy Twits said, but I do agree that they have a right to say what the think. Now, their core audience, country fans, are usually conservative, and when they took a liberal stance, their core audience excercised their right to protest and free speech by refusing to buy any more music, listen to their songs on the radio, and by holding a "cd smashing" event. How is this any different than flag burning?

While I will not go out and destroy the CDs my wife owns, I will not listen to them. I will not purchase anymore of their music.
Plus, the arena in which they chose to voice their opinion was a concert in which people paid to go to and listen to them sing, not spout off political views, so in essence, they had a "captive audience"

well to say that a boycott is stupid implies that you do not boycott; hence, you purchase their products. Either you don't understand your own logic or you need to restate this:
Actually being offended enough by their statements to call for/ follow a boycott is what I find ignorant.

Now come ON Red Dawn. I have agreed with everything in this thread. I think that you are just trying to get someone's goat.

There is no way to tell who got the most votes. I know South Carolina stops counting after someone has a majority.

Gore did have more votes if we only use the ones we counted but we sure as heck didn't count every vote except in Florida. We counted every vote in Florida about 2 times too many :)

On to the DC. I think they are silly. I personally don't understand the facination of celebrities to voice their opinion on stage and act surprised when people get pissed about it. They have a bigger voice but they sure as hell don't matter more than joe blow on the street. I don't boycott the DC's because of their statements. I don't like them because the just suck all around. Just like Marteen Sheen and Sean Penn. Who wants to watch those assclowns anyways?

Actually IMO Bush won the election fair and square according to the rules. In fact I think that if we had a Popular Vote instead of the Electoral College many more people who supported Bush over Gore would have actually voted in places like California and New York where it was obvious that their vote was a waste of time.

like i said elaborate this quote:

and explain how the black's boycott, during the civil rights movement, was different.

Wow your dodging of the hard questions, you must be a politician.

Perhaps, but I like a president who speaks his mind. It at the very least let's the public know what he's thinking, so we can judge what kind of man he is, what he stands for, what his thoughts are on various topics. Unless it's not his opinion and it's the opinion of an advisor that told him to say it. But even in that case then he would be speaking for the administation which let's us know what they collectively agree on or stand for.

This includes social issues such as this one even if you and I think it is relatively insignificant, because apparently there are thousands if not millions of people that seem to think the Dixie Cup Chicks opinions matter. Also it doesn't take much time for the pres. to make a one liner so it's not like more important matters are on the back burner for the Dunce Chicks.

Well yeah he won fair and square. My point was that we just don't know who won the popular vote. We will never go to a popular vote system because it just isn't practical. Otherwise South Carolina might try to remove itself from the union again. I know SC couldn't handle a democrat in office year after year ;)
